Guest Nemesis280ZX
I wanted to know which 5.0 motor/what year is the best one to get for the swap?
Rival5
I'm personally going for a 89-93 5.0 for the mas air with a 5 speed. Going to get a wrecked 5.0, swap the engine and tranny and put it in my 280Z. Where in Tucson are you? NW side for me.
y-not
I am installing a 350-400 H.P. 302 & Tremec TKOII in my 77 280Z / Ferrari 250 GTO. I live 25 miles north of Prescott. The car went for paint today. I have been building cars for years and I finally decided to have someone else paint my car. My Factory Five 427 Cobra had the 93 5.0 engine and tranny, ran perfectly for the 5 years I had it! Yes I have a 239 Ford Ford Flathead in my 47 Ford pickup. hat1324
isnt 89-93 forged internals for the mustang? what about the same year for a van??
Guest Naked Raygun
The 89-92 engines are the best to get. 87-88's came with the highest factory horsepower but do not come with MAF. They are speed density and is a PITA to work with. Do not get the '93 engine as it came with hypereutic pistons and a lower horsepower rating. jeffsilverz
I'm new to the list and to ford v8's! Why is the speed density a PITA to work on? I just acquired an '88 with 5speed. Is it possible to turn the intake around so the throttle is on the drivers side? The mating surfaces between the upper and lower intake look symetrical.......has anyone done this? Thanks for the help Jeff

Because Ford does not use this system anymore, should lend a clue on it's capability.

Trevor
"Is it possible to turn the intake around so the throttle is on the drivers side? The mating surfaces between the upper and lower intake look symetrical.......has anyone done this?" I haven't tried this yet, but I noticed that the Crown Vic, Grand Marquis, and Lincoln 5L engines have the throttle body on the driver's side of the upper intake. Maybe you can just swap the upper halfs if they can't be spun around.
TomsCoupe
89-92. 93-95 use shitty pistons.

TomsCoupe
the 94-95 upper intake goes out ot the left and then curves forward.
Mike Mileski
Nemesis280ZX and Rival5, I'm also in Tucson (far east side) and I have a ZZ Chevy crate motor in my 71 240 but I also have an early Bronco, 1969, that I swapped in a 91 Mustang motor using Ford's harness. Let me know if you have questions. Mike Mileski Tucson, AZ
Rival5
Hey thanks Mike. My project is moving slowly due to a herniated disk in my lower back. I'll keep you in mind though when I start picking things back up. Mike Bartelt
TomsCoupe
Painlessperformance.com has a "standalone" type harness for the 5L 302. I was going to use it in my v8 RX7 swap before i decided i didnt like the car.
