Muriatic acid eats the heck out of rust. Nasty fumes, wear a good mask and gloves. Problem is as soon as you rinse off the acid the steel will flash rust in minutes. But for the buck ($3.00 Gal. at the hardware store) you can't beat it. I use a plastic flower window box to soak old tools and small parts.

John Washington still sells the driving light frames. They fit perfectly in the Thunder Ranch openings using $18.00 / Pr. driving lights from Auto Zone.

My 77 250 GTO kit weighs 2800 with a 302 with aluminum heads. The wire wheels and tires are 300 lbs of that. Weight distrubition is 45/55. Don't forget you are removing the bumpers which on the later models are quite heavy.

Marc,
15 years ago I used a spot welder cutter from Eastwood to restore a 74 VW convert, worked great after a bit of the learning curve. Are you going to Knott's this April? I would love to see your car. I'll be there with my Thunder Ranch and maybe the Thunder Rossa.

My Thunder Rossa (front end is a Thunder Ranch - rear is a Velo Rossa) is coming along nicely, Spending a lot of time making the doors, hood and trunk fit perfectly.

Chelle,
I was not comparing my car to yours! I was comparing mine to the Alpha 1. In response to ZHEADV8's question about the Alpha 1 kit still being available.
This weekend is Club Sandwich at the Riverside Casino in Laughlin NV. Usually about 50+ kit cars and hand built one off creations. I'll be there with my 302 powered 280Z Thunder Ranch 250 GTO.

This is how I Vented the heat from My 302 powered 250 GTO replica.
I cut out a flap in the area where the battery was and on the other side. They line up with the GTO's body side vents. Side vents on a Z would sure be different.
Dayton can make the wheels any way you want. Mine cast $2100.00 delivered with true knockoff's and adaptors that bolt to the wheel studs.
The people at Dayton are great to work with.

Having just finished my Thunder Ranch 250 GTO, I bought an unfinished kit that is a Thunder Rossa. The front end is Thunder Ranch and the rear is a Velo Rossa. The car was started as a one off roadster. It has the Porsche Speedster type windshield and no side windows. Soon I will have rain and shine Ferraris.
Bill
There are several different rear end designs for the GTO kits. Check out GTORR.com, they list all of the different kits made. ScorpionZcars.com makes the trunk kit you are talking about.

This is my Thunder Ranch (mcBurnie) rear.
It probably is the 240 slave. I used the 280 slave in my 302 powered 280Z.
The way to bleed it is to remove it, hold it up side down, then bleed it while holding the piston in. It works just fine.
