Guest Anonymous
I have some pictures I'll try to post, not of that EFI system I wanted to show because the guy wasn't there. BUT, I did see something I had to look up before I was even sure what it was. A RH drive Holden Monero (sp?)CV8 was at pavillions. I'm not sure why, but dig it, it had MANUFACTURER plates on it, not just dealer plates. It also had a tow hitch on it. Now I may be jumping to some big conclusions, but GM DOES have a desert proving grounds down here AND there was some speculation that GM wanted to make this car a pontiac (rummored the return of the GTO name)possibly if it came to the states. Maybe it was a testbed car, I donno, but it was a pretty sweet looking ride. Heres the side view, sorry no interior shots, it had almost limo tint on it and I only knew it was a RH driver as the dude got in and moved it early on, but he disappeared so I didn't have a chance to ask him about the car. Check it out, our Aussie friends probably have seen this and think nothing of it having seen them before: Wonder if this would be good in a Z... It was in a SWEET looking maserati two seater sports car with a sticker WAY over 100 large : There was some serious show winning looking cars there (continued next message, theres a limit to the number of imagines I can put up apparently.) Sumo
The Holden will be coming to the US as the Pontiac GTO. Sorry no 4dr sedans for now although I think in the Middle East that 4dr. with the same V-8 RWD is also known as the Lumina SS And even the 6 cyl. 3.8 is a RWD, I wish we had that here. Guest 26ounce
It's a Monaro CV8 Lone. It was widely reported over here in Aus that it was going to be sold in the US as the new Pontiac GTO. They probably hushed up that fact over your way as you guys can be a bit parochial when it comes to cars, particularly something that will carry the GTO badge (not theres anything wrong with that). Nice looking cars, the designers did a fantastic job on adapting the deign from the 4 door model shown in Sumo's post. Nice looking Maserati in the other shots, very neat and tidy in the engine bay. I wonder how you change the oil and spark plugs?
Mikelly
Actually the GTO makeover was announced ( I think in Chevy HIPO) as the replacement for the Firebird for 2004. I am a BIG fan of the current GTP grantprix, and can't wait to see how the new GTO will fare! Mike
Phantom
It's been in Car & Driver and in Motor Trend. The Holden Monaro will be brought into the US as the new Pontiac GTO in 2004. It will only have the LS-1 5.7L V-8. The supercharged 3.8 V-6 will only be sold in Australia. The car will also be available with either the 4L60E automatic or the T-56. The write-ups I've seen on the car indicate it will be pretty sweet. The LS-1 will basically be in Camaro form with about 305 HP. Typical 1st year introduction stuff so that GM can sell future years with more HP, etc.
Guest Anonymous
I'm so out of touch with the new cars coming to the U.S., I havn't read R and T or C and D in years (they changed format years ago and I stopped subscribing). Anyway, thought it was out of the ordinary and I agree its sweet. If it really comes with the LS1 and 6 sp, it just might make Daimler reconsider the Charger concept car (which I heard online was cancelled) and perhaps a ponycar war will break out again, wouldn't that be grand. Gimme the charger concept with that new 5.7 hemi with a 6spd and I'd sure want one (affording it is another matter, but I'd sure lust after one). I'll keep my eyes peeled for more oddities, and report if I see anything suspecious. On the Maserati I donno, I'm assuming access panels somewhere to get to things. I also noted no large radiator hose, in person the plenum looks huge and takes up most of the top of the engine, its also in a golden metal color making me think its like magnesium or something. Its a trick little car though. Regards, Lone
Guest Anonymous
Lone you think you're out of touch1 I thought you meant William Holden. (All the young fellows wondering "William who"?)

David K
For those of you in AUS, how do those holdens perform?
Danno74Z
That new Holden(AKA GTO)looks like a FORD MUSTANG!! Can't beat-um join-um I guess:malebitchslap:
jeromio
I don't think it looks anything like a mustang. It does however look very much like a larger Cavalier. If it weren't for my experience with GM build quality, I'd be interested in one. Great engines at GM, they just can't construct a door panel, headliner, dashboard, etc to save their lives. Bob Lutz is pretty much the major force behind this project. The reason the FBodies were cancelled was lack of profit. Yes, they sold quite a few, but made very little on each one as compared to say a Yukon or the current cash cow, the hideous transportation appliance Impala. They won't make all that much money on these cars, but it'll stir up interest in the brand. It's a shame there's not a real market for a 4 door variant. I think I could be persuaded to get in one of those - build quality problems or no. Also, Bob is determined to eliminate the ridiculous plastic body cladding that Pontiac has become famous for. Three cheers for Bob.
Guest Anonymous
Good for him, that cladding on the pontiac grand prix and grand am's always looked like a plastic guard rail in my opinion. They could lose that silly wing those cars have to (no offense if you own one, they're good transportation, but not to my taste in styling). I think it looks a bit like the monte carlo thats out there as well now, its about that size of a car. I hear you on build quality, my brother had a camaro plain jane 6 cyl and the window mechanism failed twice, interior pieces fell off consistantly. The drivetrain was fine, but the interior fastener design was pretty piss poor IMHO. (not to mention it may as well be a van the motor is so far under the front window!) Guest Zpeed
ummm the LS1 6spds do very well, but of course they weigh a tad, with all the leather and all the other BS they got in there.. but they do have some good punch, i think they do 14s stock, with a very very restrictive exhaust... id be quite happy in owning one, i think there is a write up of it at www.carpoint.com.au for anyone interested, but look for the holden monaro..
