Guest 305240
Does anyone know where I can find any steel fender flares that are about 5 to 6" wide? Or any at all? The only thing I can find are the fiberglass or poly ones. My other option was buying a set of VW fenders and cutting them down. Thanks guys. ZHeadV8
Big trade secret which I guess will now be out of the bag in the UK but mine is having Porsche 930 steel flares welded on to accomodate an 8.5" negative offest at the back and a 7.5" negative offset at the front. VERY deep dish wheels. The fronts fit OK, don't need much fiddling with but the backs are a fair job, you need to cut the arches down, weld them on then blend them in. I spent months looking for steel flares and the only ones I found to fit were from VB and I didn't like them. Cheers Andy F
Guest 305240
Thanks. That gives me an idea where and how to start. I've put smaller flares on cars by making my own. You can take a flat piece of sheetmetal and cut out the "banana" outline for the flare. When you put a curl on the lip, it automatically bends the lip outward. This method works well if you only need an extra inch or two, and don't need to cut into your fenders. IE: Street Rods using air shocks for wider tires. In this new Bling and High tech era, the cheapest things are now mega bucks. I remember real steel flares going for a whopping 25 bucks years ago! Dudeboy
305240, I have been looking for some different ideas for flares also, so I am putting this idea out there !!! Pantera GT4 Flares or Group 4, you can get them in steel or fiberglass. There is a Pantera shop in Florida that sells the fiberglass for reasonably price and the steel flares, but they are expensive, and I know Pantera International out in California list them but prices can be steep !!!! The Group 4 flares check them out here: http://www.pim.net/18.1pim.html On my laptop I have the name of the company in florida, if you want that info I will post it. To get a better idea of what these flares look like, just enter Pantera GT4 Flares in a internet search engine and see what you come up with. JaysZ
in a recent issue of eurotuner (with the blue m3 on 20's) they showcase a widebody A4 with the stock fenders pulled out to achieve its width. it takes a considerable amount of time and especially skill... its a euro thing thats more for purists and to show off skill. the best way to do it is do what evilrufuskay is doing... make your own also, check out this supra... what a gorgeous car. note the steel fenders on it as well. simply amazing. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6447&item=4542881630&rd=

Guest 305240
DUH! (Smacks forehead) I just remembered. About 20 some years ago I went down to the local Farm and Feed store and bought a couple of stock watering tubs. They were made from galvenized metal. I used 2 of them to make a set of fenders for my trailer. I was traveling from Mich to Fla and had to go thru Ohio. Ohio required fenders on any kind of trailer. The watering tubs had the tapered contour I'm looking for to make a set of flares. Wonder how much they are today? Bet they are a tad bit more than the 5 bucks apiece I paid for them then. Problem solved.

ZHeadV8
DOH !!! WHY DID YOU HAVE TO DO THE PANTERA THING ????????????????? Have another itch now They are soooo gorgeous
Guest 305240
ZheadV8, I appreciate the time and trouble. I really do. However, my disability check won't let me get them. But, the 17 gallon galvinised wash tubs for 23 bux apiece at Big R is well within my budget. I can make flaires up to 11" wide out of them. An added plus is they have the metal rod crimped into the lip of the tub. I can expose as much of the rod as I want so I can tie/weld it to the undercarriage. Pice of this job WILL be posted. Thanks again all for the help.

Dudeboy
Ken, Here is the web page with one of two early Datsuns that I know of with Porsche 930 flares (steel). http://www.grombil.com/Grombiler/Extreme_styling/TRS_z240/DSCF0060.jpg I like the look of the rear 930 flares so I purchased a set from Rennspeed in fiberglass. I hoping to be on to the body work by the first of the year, and I will post pics once I get started.

SteelToad
These are the steel flares from Black Dragon, this is with a little coaxing and modification, but they were pretty good to start with. Not 5-6 inches, more like 3-

kj280z
Looks like these are the fiberglass versions for the front and rear http://www.rennspd.com/Products.asp?Task=STD&ModID=7&catID=7 Can someone confirm that?
Dudeboy
Ken, Those are the flares in fiberglass. The only part I am not sure about the Yellow Z is what bumper he utilized or just a bumper insert. I purchased the flare bumper insert, rather than trying to modify the complete bumper to fit the rear. Here is picture when I received them just to get a idea of what I was getting myself into.
