scottyMIz
hey guys i finally got one of the cars i have always wanted. My dad called today and told me that he couldn't give me any money for christmas this year.I explained to him that he doesn't have to get me anything. He insisted that i get something and then offered me his old first car that i have always drooled over since i can remember. He said he'd sell it to me for 1 dollar and i said ok.Ok here are the specs on the car some people might like the car some might hate it.It is 1965 barracuda fast back with the 273 V8 and 4sp stick! I love this car it use to be red with white racing stripes but my dad painted it blue.My first thing is to get it running since i have never seen it run in my life. Then it needs body work and then of course nice wheels and lowering. The catch it that it's about 13 hours from me and i have to go get it But since i have wanted this car for so long i happily accepted.I'll get pics and updates when i get it. Guest Anonymous
It used to be red with white racing stripe.... Is it a "Formula S" ?? A lot of them were white with red racing stripes and were total high performance. Any "Formula S" insignias or badges?
scottyMIz
I dunno for sure but the white stripe was on the bottom of the doors. It has the high output 273 in it and says so on the aircleaner.Mom use to whoop vettes with it. Len
Oh man, Oh man bring back my childhood. I remember cruising mainstreet seeing a Hemi Coda (a later year think around 68/69). Those bodies are light. Your gonna have a blast with that. Now parts are going to be more expensive dealing with a mopar but hey that car will be worth it! Congrats. "13 hours away" where will that be?
Guest Anonymous
A Formula S will have some badges on it.. Front and rear sway bars.....all heavy duty suspension and big brakes (no discs) Was made to compete with the Shelby 350 Mustang
Guest 240hybrid
Man thats one hell of a gift :eek2:Do you plan on painting it the original red with white strips? I'll have to take a look at the pics when you post them. I wish my grandfather would do the same and give me his original all aluminum AC cobra that he some how came upon in a scrapyard. Dealer spun it out and smashed rear quarter panel, he got it at a steal and restored the damage. Last time I visited him,we tried to get it to run. cranked but wouldnt turn over. Figured battery we were using didnt have the juice to do the job. Prob. didnt crank enough to get the air out and fuel into the carb either. Oh well. I only got to stay a week, and spent most of my time with the relatives I never see, so we never got it out on the road. Good luck with that cuda . Sounds like a sweet ride. fl327
i was reminded that i used to have a muscle car last night, we got my buddies gt500 clone to do its first powerbrake, and it reminded me of the pure nasty fury of a v8, man v8s are fun.. pparaska
Man, I love those! In high school, I had a buddy that had a 70 AAR Cuda with a built 340. He had a blue Formula S Baracuda as well. Those things are sweet! Tough to find body parts for though! Congrats!
scottyMIz
thanks guys and i won't forget the z site.I have to wait til like summer to get it.I'm gonna take my z and a friend and then truck the car back with a ryder rental and he's gonna drive my baby back.I know a guy here that has back fenders for the galss'd cudas so i'll get those from him and then just make the res of the parts myself. The z is my baby and will always be but the cuda is prolly gonna make me sell two cars cuz i won't have any intrest in them anymore.I'll definately take pics and keep everyone updated. Man i love those ol cudas and i'm not gonna make it look dumb. It'll be mostly stock except for wheels and tires maybe might twin turbo it tho
Len
I read that last sentence. "maybe might turbo it tho " If I'm not mistaken those cars are only about 4 or 500 lbs. of an increase in weight of our Z's. So a V8 with a turbo WATCH OUT MOMMA! Hey if you can turbo that P/U of yours this will be a work of art! I've got a confession to make; sometimes late at night. I wonder if my Lt-1 belongs in a 240 or maybe a Nova/1st gen Camero. I'm sorry must a been a brain fart! I keep on thinking of work invested as compaired to resale? If or when the desire fades! Dammit! sometimes I hate the fact my parents taught me common sense! I'll get over it!

denny411
My dad also had a 65 barracuda fast back, red with white stripes. I loved that car. I`ve been looking for years for one to replicate it. Someday....
scottyMIz
OK guys i got specs.... well some just from my dad.It has the 273 4bbl 4sp one of 4874 made.It is the original engine and dad did buy it new.I hate to turn in the title to the state! The vin verifies that it is a true v8 car and it was built in St.Louis MO and it is a 1965 cuda.My dad also told me that my bro came and got the other cuda he had(66) and dropped it off the trailor trying to get it on.One of the ramps fell out and it got stuck on the trailor so they had to jack it up to get it free. My brother is an idiot! he has no buisness getting one of these cars but i guess he is family and i'm glad dad gave me the good one I'm making plans to get it in the spring-summer time and he said it was cool. It's being stored in the garage so i don't have to worry about any more crap getting on it.He also has some wheels he bought for it a while ago i think they are cragars but they need rechroming.I can't wait for spring
Len
Well if the # match then don't lose any of the original stuff. But you can always turbo another engine for awhile until time you need to market it (if you ever do).
DavyZ
Yes, if the numbers match and it's some kind of really special car, be careful what you do with it. HOWEVER, if it is not a 'desirable' performance model, get a 440 install kit from Schumacher Enterprises and big block that bad boy! Man, that would be my take on it. What a gift---you lucked out!
