cyrus
I just bought a MSA Carbon Fiber Spoiler, ($189) looks like only one layer thick. If you hold it to the light you can see through it. I thought you need to have these things have many layers and less resin...
Tim240z
It still amazes me that anyone buys stuff from MSA......
cyrus
actually it has a nice finish it is just too thin.
Tim240z
think it will hold up to 65mph wind speed?
slownrusty
I have bought alot of carbon fiber body panels over the years from various manufacturers and it is very common to see light through them, does not indicate crap quality or that rain will go through, just the way the FRP and the CF sheet is laid over. cyrus
Thats it, I need to test it. I need to make sure it can handle 160 mph.
johnc
Look at the layup. You should see alternating layers of weave and yes, sometimes you can see light through CF parts that don't have a core.
Vintage-TechZ
Yes, Johns right there....about translucency if held up to light. But.....does it flex if you put one end in each hand and put a twist in oposing directions ? It might a tiny bit if its a strong cross-hatched lay-up....but not much. If its real flexy....you may want to beef it up on the back side with resin and glass to keep from accidentally puncturing or cracking the clear gel-coat . Does it fit and lay well ? ............Vinny
randy 77zt
a lot of stuff from motorsport is for bling-not functional for real motorsports.having a spoiler fail at high speed could be dangerous.
