Mikelly
... Well this weekend we wire it up, and move to the rough in inspection phase of this whole nightmare... Maybe by next week I can get the rough in inspection done, get the insullation in next weekend, then get that isnpection done, and move on to the final! God I hope this goes to schedule.. I'd like to refinance this homestead while the rates are as low as they are... I'm still waiting for the garage door to arrive and be installed... Pictures are forthcoming... Wish me luck guys... BLKMGK
5.3%?! Holy smokes, I just refinanced a year ago and that's low enough that it might be worth my while to check into! I'm going to be raising the roof on my garage so I've got a 13foot ceiling and adding heat plus a lift. This will be an equity loan but if the rates are low enough itmigh tbe smart to just redo the whole thing and grab some of the equity for the job. Hrm! How long does the process take? Guest Anonymous
I wish I had the property to build a shop/Big Garage. Congrats on the progress! Jon
RPMS
Good news on the progress, Mike! I'm going about the process backwards. We're going to build a HUGE garage (big enough for a semi truck, 3 cars, 2 motorcycles, and a woodworking shop) and build our living quarters up front. I'm figuring 100' x 80' should do it. Tim240z
I'd like to refinance this homestead while the rates are as low as they are... We just refied through E-Trade mortgage....great rate (15 year @ 5.3%) and customer service second to none. this is the second time we have used them. I can't recommend them enough, they were great. they scheduled (with our agreement) the appraiser, the Notary public, who all came to the house on our schedule. Apart from faxing a couple of docs, we had to do nothing.Tim
Mikelly
Scott, I still have the upstairs on the garage to finsh and my 15 year old is begging me to let him live up there... 11X32, and it would make one heck of a guys haung out... But we're likely gonna move the mail order business out there, so the whole business venture is out of the house! Needless to say the 15 year old isn't too stoked about that... I told the wife that if we had plumbing out there she'd never see me! Mike
denny411
It takes a little more than plumbing. I still need a fridge and microwave. Then I would never have to leave the garage.
Mikelly
Denny I've got an extra Microwave, and we're scheduled to upgrade the frig when I'm done with the garage anyway... So guess where the extra is going??? Well we're done... Took three of us from 10AM until 3:30 without a lunch break, but we got interior wiring, extrerior wiring, the panel, and the service set. I'm tired.. I'm also a bachelor tonight since the wife and stepson took a bustrip to NYC to see the Xmas tree and a Broadway show... I'm gonna order some food and settle in for the evening... Pretty tired... Now to schedule the rough in, and go buy some insulation... Mike
Guest JAMIE T
Glad to hear the progress report Mike. Sounds like things are really moving now(finally). I got your message the other night, but have been real busy. I still haven't even brought the "New" 240Z home yet. No time. I am working 5am-5pm for the next 11 days. We need to get some furniture(new line) out to a show room for some design mags. It's going to be a lot of fun
VRJoe
Mike, 1. Aren't you glad the roof was on before the snow came ?? 2. Hope you remembered to wire the garage for 120V AC, NOT 12V DC 3. No, you don't need to use Pete's light relay info 4. Be honest with the kid, tell him "My dad would never have let ME move out there", or "trust me, it's for your own good", or just smile real big and tell him "me and mom have plans for the upstairs" and poke him with your elbow a few times - Joe
Mikelly
Joe... #1. Yes. #2 120 AC! #3. DUH! and finally...I gave the kid my normal response... "Are you on Crack?" He got the point! Mike
Mikelly
Well guys I have a FULL day Friday... The Electrical Rough in Inspection takes place, AND the garage door gets installed that afternoon. Next will be the Insullation... You guys have any tips on Insulation? I've been told it is almost as cheap to have someone else install it for me, than buying it from Lowes and installing it myself. I'll be SOOOO Happy to be able to start moving some of my larger Roll around items into the garage so I can atleast start the process of cleaning up the other garage... Took the door opener off the attached unit last night, as the installer will install it on the new garage door for me! Mike
jeromio
Yes, insulation guys get a much better price on material usually. And the labor costs are pretty low. If you do it yourself, buy one of those full body Tyvek jump suits (covers your head too) in the paint section of Lowes. Also a face mask and gloves and goggles. Itchy itchy itchy. CruxGNZ
You're movin' right along now! Hope the inspections go well. As for the insulation, do it yourself. Very easy to do. Just wear a longsleve shirt, pants, gloves, mask, and if you don't like the crap in your eyes, then get yourself a pair of those goggles that fit tight to your face. You can also do as Jeromio said and dress up as Stay Puff marshmellow man . Seriously, it's easy. Why pay someone, when you can do it yourself, unless you don't have time for it. Tips for installing it? Just don't play with it like you would with cotton candy . Try to keep the movement of the stuff to a minimum. When you shower, take a LUKE WARM shower and RISE it off of you. NO hot shower! My uncles dog found a bat of insulation to be a good place to sleep a few weeks ago... I think the dog is still itching like crazy. !M! DavyZ
Mike, the pictures in my head of this garage are great! When you finish, get some pics for us to see--sounds like a fantastic structure from your descriptions, and most of us can only wish of having so big a garage with our puny 6000 sq ft lots. Arg. Mikelly
One down... Got he inspection out of the way... I need a GFI plug installed under the panel (Plug is wired, but no actual plug!) but he passed me with the contingent... I'm on to the insulation portion now! Also the garage door installer is here three hours early!!! Coming together! Mike
