Of course jack stands will still have to be used if performing suspension work but I would feel safer. Are there other you would recommed? JMortensen Posted October 20, 2005 Share Posted October 20, 2005 Seems like it would be harder to work on a car on one of those lifts than it would be to just put it on jackstands. Those two long ramps would be in the way if you were trying to do anything more than pull drivetrain stuff. Basically anything that wasn't right in the middle of the underside of the car would be tough to get at. That's my 1st impression. If memory serves Jeromio has a lift like that. Jersey Posted October 20, 2005 Share Posted October 20, 2005 It does make it nice to work under the Z and much safer when you want some breathing room underneath. Only problem is as Jon mentioned, they're always there and tough to move around so if you've got a designated place for them to always stay and don't mind pulling up on them every time you pull into the garage, they're great. It's also nice when you want to look at the suspension geometry while it's sitting on all 4 tires. You can get to everything under the Z when it's on the lift. Made a recent tranny swap actaully enjoyable! lol. There's a black brace that actually spreads both ramps and locks into groves that can slide front or back so you can use a (bottle)jack to lift the car off it's suspension. You can get hydraulic low level lifts that still raise the car about 5-6 ft. for not much more than that unit...Mayb $1500-2000 referbished! Even if you only lifted the car high enough to do brake work or whatever, it would sure beat jackstands. If you had to do something that requires walking under the car (like a tranny) You could always get yourself a nice chair with wheels to sit on. It pivots like a see saw... you drive up on it, the front comes down, then you pull some pins and the rear "legs" fall down to keep it horizontal. It beats the heck out of jack stands! They don't get the car nearly as high in the air, but still... Makes doing work so much easier...
