Guest HALLOWEEN Z
I finally got a 13.9 with a bone stock 350 emission heads and cheap 215 60 14 tires. My friend has a camaro with a 350 with a performance cam, roller rockers, hydraulic flat lifters, and edelbrock performer intake, and vortech heads. he can only run 15's with his camaro, Its been dynoed with varied results but the motor probably has about 300hp. We swapped motors for a couple weeks and today I got a 12.35 at 110mph with a 1.87 60 ft. I knew it would be a good day when I got 12.5 on the first pass. Oh and its a 700r4 tranny and 3.54 gears. 75 280z. weighs 2750 with me in it. I don't think the motor is coming back out:)
dr_hunt
Well, he'll probably have to beat you up to get it anyway. It's been said, so I'll repeat it. Give a guy more HP and he'll be happy, just don't try to take it away!
Mike C
Amazing what trimming a little weight and adding some gear will do! Congrats on having your 12 sec slips. Oh, and it must be nice to be able to walk to the drag strip from home!
Michael
This is a very interesting result.... Ignoring drag, the 1/4 mile times should vary as (weight/hp)^(1/3). So if your car, at 2750 lbs, gets 12.35 seconds and his car gets 15.0 with the same engine, then his should weigh at around 4900 lbs - which is clearly too much, but at least 1000 lbs. To what extent would the difference be due to gearing, traction, and better technique (yours)? Guessing a 3800 lb weight for the Camaro with driver, and the proverbial "all else being equal", he should be getting high 13's.
Guest HALLOWEEN Z
I think the other problem with his car is an open diff. My has and open diff to but I think the fact that its irs and doesn't twist as much helps.
Guest HALLOWEEN Z
Oh and Mike C do you every come to Academy with your Z? I seen a tubbed out Red Z with a big block and solid axle from Houston 3 weeks ago. He didn't do any mods to the fire wall but he did have a motor plate on the motor. He had fiberglass doors and outer finders and he cut out the inner fender behind the struts for his exahaust. In place he had a tube welded from the frame rail to the strut tower top then welded to the firewall. The solid axles coil overs were mounted to a crossmember where the wheel well is. I wish I would have had a camera with me. Oh and he claims it runs 9 somethings but that night he was having problems.
