Guest veggedout
Ok, this is going to sound bizarre and probably won't work, but... I have an '86 Nissan D21 pickup with a bad tranny and have found an '85 Sentra with a 1.7l diesel engine. I have been looking for a diesel pickup to convert to run on WVO (waste vegetable oil), and if I could make this work, I'd have an extremely fuel efficient little greasecar that I could also use to haul the oil! So, the question is... would it work to put the Sentra motor and tranny into the pickup? Thanks for any advice!
Lewis Maudlin
Almost any motor can be put in almost any car. The question you need to ask is how much fabrication is involved and how much of a gearing issue will you have? Sounds neat. There was a guy with a WVO 280Z for sale on ebay a while back. I also saw it in several magazines.
Administrators BRAAP Posted November 2, 2005 Administrators Share Posted November 2, 2005 I take it the Sentra is a Front Wheel drive set up right?. So would you swap in the entire front wheel drive set up? Hmmm ….a small displacement front wheel drive diesel pick-em-up? Hmmm. . Interesting. Kinda like the little ole VW pick-up, only a little larger, a little heavier, and just about as cosmetically challenged? LOL
Guest veggedout
Ah, I did not think about the Sentra being front wheel drive. That would be more work than I would like to tackle. Darn. Anyone know of any other cars or trucks with small diesel engines that I should keep an eye out for? Thanks!!!
JMortensen
My buddy started with the WVO diesel rabbit truck (which was PAINFULLY slow BTW), now he has a 87 Turbo Diesel Toyota 1.9L (?) that he's converting. He also has a hardcore rock crawling 4x4 Toyota that he is converting from gas to diesel and WVO.
Cruez
I've been looking for one of those Sentra's for a while.. I think '84 and '85 had the diesel option. Not sure how you could get it to work in the truck though.. Thats when I started looking for a SD22 engine for a diesel conversion.
