Guest ON3GO
I have one of those factory DIS systems that was on the 280zx. im about done with wiring my Z with the Microtech standalone and MSD ignition.. but i figured hmm.. why not coil packs. my ecu can handle it, i have some supra MKIII coilpacks or BMW ones i can use. and i have that 280zx DIS system. can it fire more then one coil though? from what i read it can only do 1.. so how would i go about making it fire like how the electromotive kit or SDS kit works. im so close to firing this car, but im on a little debate weither or not to just use the dizzy or go coil packs.... if the system i have wont work then dizzy it is, im saving up for even more HP, and if a dizzy works on topfuel then its fine for me lol. mike
Sparky
does the microtech only have 1 ignition driver? on the Haltech if you want to run coil packs you can run one ignitor per driver and then that can control a double coil firing on a certain sequence 2,2,2 along with the corresponding cylinders. im still reading the manual. Guest ON3GO
lol me too.. i didnt find that in my manual.. ill have to keep reading. mike
dapiper
Most ECU's have at least 2 ign outputs so can use waste spark. If u have only one, then need multiplexer, mucho $$. I'm also on fence re DIS with my autronics ECU, which has 4 ign outputs, but still requires waste spark. I have some LS1 coils (inductive) I will try, but now running on dizzy with MSD 6T. Have heard more power with timing than AFR optimization. CDI best with turbo. LS1 coils may not be up to firing my turbo but I guess I will find out. LS1's are a cheap DIS alternative. Will advise by next week, if you can wait that long. I couldn't wait, so I just tuned fuel on dizzy. I know I will have to retune.

dapiper
Oh man, You gotta go DIS...looks so trick. I didn't expect much under normal driving but very noticable smoother response difficult to discribe and you can have any timing you want or the engine needs. No spark scatter or timing bounce at higher RPM when the weights bounce of their stops. No cross firing in the cap. Oh baby, why did you wait so long. What a hoot! 260DET
So what module are you using to fire the coils? Waste spark setup?
