savageskaterkid
Mike, or anybody else who has enough experience about the S12, could you help me with this? I ask you Mike, becuz you are currently working on one at the shop, but anyone can reply. Right now I am looing at building a VERY TIGHT BUDGET CAR w/ THE WOW FACTOR. So I been looking into the S12-in my area they can be had rather cheap-in the 500-700 dollar range. And I was looking into an RB motor to put into it-I have seen RB20DET's go for around a grand with the tranny,turbo,wiring.....ect. The real questions: If the mounts are basicly the same for an SR20 into a 200sx as the 240sx, then the mounts would be the exact same for the RB into a 240sx, right? AND, do you see enough room to be able to stuff an RB into the S12. I've looked into this but every board I look at says-"Why do that when you can install and SR20 for a better bang for buck" Or the people were in the process and just stopped posting about it. I do not want an SR20 because all the SX's around here are soon to be SR20, and a good frend is about to do it too. I want sumthing unique. It is VERY RARE to see an RB series engine in anything around here. So thats what I want to do. I will knowledge everyones response about the SR20, but that is NOT going to go into the car im visualizing.
Eric
http://www.club-s12.org/board/showthread.php?t=6749 rb20det S12 i also have an idea asto the mounting. the s12 came with a vg30 in 87-88. to make it fit, Nissan had to change the xmember in the car. my thought is that if u have the SE(trim level of the vg car) xmember, use the z31 200zr mounts and have a direct bolt in. i don't know any messurments so i'm not sure if u'd need to move the radiator suport forward but i'd be willing to bet u'd need to. Guest ON3GO
hey man. the S12 were building was just the plan ole 4 cyl model which made stuffing the SR in very easy, i dunno why ppl think its so hard. stock Silvia engine mounts, modded driveshaft, and stock auto tranny mount with a 2.3inch "add on" on top of the stock mount to move the tranny to the correct angle. im picking up both a RB20DET and VH45DE in the next few weeks to stuff in both a S130 Z and S12 so i can be more help soon. from what was told though you want the V6 model for the RB swap, but the engine mounts it self will be different i think. the radiator will have to be removed from the stock area and put before the radiator support. easy enough but im guessing the hoses will be a bitch if you wanna use off the shelf ones. theres plenty of room for a fmic if you move the radiator more foward so dont worry about that. the brake lines in the rear of the engine bay on the fire-wall might get in the way like they did with my SR swap so just look into that when the time comes. rear end will be short gearing so know that also.. its great for the SR but i dunno about the RB. good luck! next S12 car that ill build for my own person self is getting a L28ET mike
savageskaterkid
I know that Mckinnely has S13 RB mounts, not sure how great they are though. But if its a kit to mount the RB into an S13, would it be enough to mount into an S12?

Guest ON3GO
its before the S13 240sx. its a 200sx. rwd, Z31 300zx style suspension. nice car. heres how it looks like with miss-match paint and etc lol. and heres it with the SR20DET we put in it at my work. mike
RB26powered74zcar
That would be a cool little ride if you could fit a larger motor in it. I'm sure the SR will make it skoot too though...
Sparky
I would like to pick one of those up myself...but for some reason I cannot find a reasonably priced on in decent condition. I would like to have one as my daily driver..... trade out my current DD accord.....

savageskaterkid
I deffinitly wouldn't mind getting one, i just don't know too much yet about them yet, so I'm gonna start lurking over at clubs12.org for awhile before I buy one. I have seen a few around here, but the S13 has rust problems on the rear hatch around here, and it wouldn't suprise me if the S12s have similar rust problems, so I'll hafta look deeper into it. Anybody with experiance with one of these can chime in.
Guest ON3GO
they all have damage it seems on the front fenders plus doors.. as the door hindges brake. the damn doors are so heavy. i already started getting parts for my own S12 once i find a good body. im looking for some race spec parts right now to reduce weight as much as i can. they are very light as it is but 2000lbs sounds fun with a 400hp L28. mike
savageskaterkid
hey mike, have you compared the size of the RB20 to the engine bay of the SX yet?
Guest ON3GO
engine bay is larger then the 240sx.. atleast it seems. i can measure tomorrow if that 240sx we have is still there. mike
