Heat Sheild instead of relocating brake line?

Recommended Posts

I built a heat shield for the passenger front brake line yesterday out of .035 steel, I'll post a pic soon with the header installed, they arn't too good.

I used the mounting clamps for the original fuel lines to bolt to. There is about 1/8 to 1/4 of and inch clearance between the down tubes in the center and the sheild and about the same between the shield and the brake line. I plan on painting with high temp paint and possibly wrapping the headers with heat tape.

As you can tell I really don't want to bother to move this line, thoughts??? Anyone know when brake fluid boils?

I'M WORKING ON MY CAR AND IT FEELS GREAT :)

Just finished on the bench...

Installed Front View, you can see the air between the shield and the brake line...

Installed Top View-see how it's bolted to the existing brackets...

Here you can sort of see the clearance between the shield and the header, I think it's a large enough pc of metal to dissipate most of that heat, or so I hope!!!

Torque reaction will tend to move the engine closer to the shield/line? I'm assuming that you used such a heavy shield to protect the line from impact too?

There is special heat shield sheet available, its thin and of a sandwich construction with an indented surface.

Actually I used the heavy because it's what I had. I didn't think about the engine moving, I guess that would rule out the wrap? Those brackets that I used to tie the shield to aren't the stoutest things, they'll probably let the whole thing move it something comes in contact with it.
