Jonas240z
Hey fellow Z Freaks! I got i quick question. I just purchased a set of the Speedhut EL gauges for my '73 240z and i need to remove the needle from the Tach and Speedometer. HOW DO YOU REMOVE THEM? I'm stuck and i have no idea on how to do this . So any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks
Dragonfly
This is the type of tool that works the best. If you do not have something like this or can not make (or get) something like this for the speedometer take it out of the housing and hold the "cup" in the back while carefuly twisting the needle and pulling upwards with your finger and thumb. That will not work with the tach and you will need to use some sort of puller, but DO NOT use any sort of tool (screwdriver etc.) to try to pry the needle off the post as you will damage the post, the gage face, the needle or all the above. Sparky
I've always been able to just pull straight up using even steady pressure and my fingers.
Cruez
I pulled mine off with a delicate touch of my hands... They will come straight out. Just be careful, the needles will bend very easily.
qwik240z
I used a pair of very small side angle needle nose pliers. I only put them under the needle, paying close attention not to touch the shaft. Light upward pressure and it pops off.
