desert dog
I mean other than it probably was originally in a '70... The worn L24 in my '73 project car has a serial # of 009196.
JMortensen
The earliest L24's didn't have a fully counterweighted crank. They stopped making that crank in the first part of 1970. Unless the car that the engine came out of were located I don't think it's going to make a difference as far as value...
Guest norm[T12SDSUD]
Hey Jon ,none of the Z cranks are FULLY counterweighted.
JMortensen
You're right Norm. I think the early 240 had 6 counterweights, and the later one had 8 or something (SWAG here, might be way off). Should have said didn't have as many counterweights.
NZeder
I think I read somewhere that the 6 counter weight cranks were up to L24-003606 after that Nissan changed to the 8 counter weight cranks.
desert dog
Cool thanks for the info. I just didn't want to accidentally throw away something someone might want for a restoration, should I not be able to get rid of it...
johnc
The owner of 240Z HLS30-009196 would be the only person keenly interested in that particular block.
JMortensen
Not that it really matters as we've established that its just a run of the mill L24, but the engine numbers and VIN numbers don't correspond. On zhome.com's registry HLS30 08077 has engine number L24 09816 for instance. None of them match, I think because the L24 was used in other vehicles as well as the Z. johnc
I guess its good that I'm not a Z restoration guy...
