OMFG!! Anyone else see Darius' videos? :)

Recommended Posts

that is funny that you mention the background music because I went to a spot I know of where the cops usually dont go, kinda in the middle of no where and there is this guy with a drum set practicing, and he wuold not stop, so I just did some donuts right in front of him, and he didnt even care, even though I was probably shooting rocks all over him, anyway that is how the background music came to be. If you want to know the specs you can go to the chevy v8 z tech board and look up 71 240z with 383 and D-1 procharger, Im not that fast at typing to relist all the specs. later

Thats funny. Listening to the video I was SURE it was live drums (one by the sound, and two by the ahem, talent level...). Guy plays on as smoke and rocks pour over him, real devoted... smile.gif

Still coming down for me but I can see plenty - smile.gif I LOVE those valve covers and it just looks NICE all snug in there. Heh, worth getting the blower repaired huh?

Up to this point I'd been waffling on a supercharger, it's not liek I don';t have one on the other car but... Ah hell, I want one for the Z too! I'll get it running carbed first, go fuelie next Winter maybe, and seriously consider a blower. I mean geez, just how sick can a Z get?! smile.gif Even sounds liek my Mustang!

What wheels are those too? Let's see some more stills of the car - I've lost the previous WEB site but the more the better. I'll help out posting if space is needed...

P.S. Yeah, I could've done without the donuts but hey it's is video and I'm glad he shared it with us smile.gif

Hi,Darius

I work for the City of Glendale in beautiful So Cal. My shop that I work at is in the same shop as the Police garage. I was showing the motorcycle mechanic and cycle cops the video. They were impressed with your bike skills and your fat wallet. How much do you spend on tires anyway? Between the Z and bike that is? Only kidding.

As far as the Z EVERYONE of them said "yep those are the ones we find wrapped around light poles."

As far as I'm concerned I loved every second of it including the music(that blow off valve is bitchen DUDE) and the drums too.

As far as reckless driving my Z is the best handling car I've ever driven. You can't help but lay rubber sideways.

Just keep it shiny side up!!!

Hey will you be at the Z nationals this year by any chance. Last year was kind of barren with V8Z's.

I'm taking my Z for the car show.

Ya some people dont agree with the way I drive "cops" but I'm not an idiot, at least most of the time. I have been hittin the local tracks since I was 17 and have raced go karts and also have SCCA license. I know how to control the Z at least 99% of the time, not to say I haven't lost control of it before, because I have, a long time ago. I have been wrenching on it for 7 years and dont plan on wadding it up on a light pole or something. I totaled a 510 when I was 15-no license, so I learned my lesson early! As for tires I need some new ones on the z and think I will get some bfg r1 sticky's or maybe some yokahama a032r advans. I will be at the show this year for shure you will not miss me, look for the large crowd and the jet engine noise coming from it.he he he he!

Yup, I can personally vouch for Darius's driving skillz, and his Z car.

It's been a while, but it feels like a good BIG block 10 second camero... The last time I saw his Z.. it was running 12.60s... and i THOUGHT i may have a chance in my 300Z... but not now. not likely. not ever.

He'll make my car do things around corners I'll never attempt. But then again, I'll do things to HIS car in a straight line that makes him cringe in pain.

We're a good team, he and I. Good to have seen you again, my friend!

Darius,

And the beat goes on; Van Halen has nothing on that guy; what a trooper-definately dedicated to his music, getting pelted by rocks & still never quits: Does he do barmitsfas (I'm sure I mispelled that word).

(administator mode off - personal opinions only follow wink.gif )

I would have not hit the accelerator that last time IF I had seen the oncoming traffic. But I agree, the Z is VERY easy to control in a rear tire slide. The car was under control as soon as he lifted off the gas and his sticky tires didn't have torque pouring through them - the car hooked and went straight down the lane again immediately.

(administrator mode on)

I in no way condone these practices on public highways.

(But don't be surprised if you ever see me doing something like that if I had the torque! wink.gif )

That thing has got to be an awesome thing to drive - and requires alot of restraint, I'm sure!

I'd be putting the biggest, stickiest tires I could find on that thing!

See you in Kingston! I want a ride (I think!) I'll wear a "Depends" and put plastic down on the seat!

I dont know about the rest of you but when I first saw him laying rubber (besides the on coming traffic thing); All I could thing about is how in the world could a purist not want their car to perform like that????

Not putting down purists...I understand their motive to preserve the Z for posterity's sake.....But the Rocket Launching/Put your but back in the seat feeling......That's the way a Z is suppose to run; who cares if we (Included Myself as a Future V8Z guy) are always looked down by the Z Clubs as rebel chop-shop specialists.

You know good & well if that Z/Engineer-what's his name; An Asian guy responsible for seeing the 240Z brought to life; anyway-you know who I talking about; put him in a bad to the bone V8Z & run-em thru the 1/4 mile...you know he'ld be smilen w/a Possem Eaten Grin from ear to ear on his face.

He'ld probably say something like; "Not bad round eye-not bad indeed." Sorry for the asian slurr-I Grew up on Black Belt Theater movies every Saturday morning as a kid.

Nuf-said.

I was around a V8Z (actually it's the 377 ci Gnose Black w/ White striped one that's been seen here) at the Atlanta Convention in 1995. Mr. K. (Z car "creator") saw it, loved it, and signed his name to the dash, I heard later.

That's what gets me. If Mr. K sees no problem with a V8 Z, why should anyone else?

I'll have to play devils advocate here. Even though I do intend on a V8 swap, and maybe I'm in the minority but I think there has to exists a balance of power and handling. While the original Z designer might well be impressed with straight line acceleration (who wouldn't?), theres a good chance the car would be way more of a handful in the twisties than some people would like to deal with. Depends on the car's usage. A tack hammer will work for some, others want to get the biggest sledge they can find. IMHO.

Respectfully,

Lone

Well this is just my experience, and I have owned a total of 14 datsun Zs and have driven them hard since January 1988. My 500+HP 383 stroker Z is as easy to control and well behaved as anything I have owned, and as for handling, it is like anything else. You have to look at the v8 Converted Z as a total package. I wouldn't dream of stufifng a 300HP V8 in a bone stock z with bone stock brakes... Not smart and I hope noone thinks that is a smart thing to do, because it is a quick way to get a trip to the hospital.

Build a total package, but 1st come up with a plan... that is the way to go and I think Darius has got a well thought out car... I need to see the film!!!

This is my feeling on "balance of power":

If you have a car at speed that pulls 1G around corners, and 1G in stopping, wouldn't you also want to accelerate at 1G?

its good to have high speed!

Very true on the high speed. Have you tried downloading the 120MB 911 file? I have, about 55 minutes. I think it had alot to do with the sending end. average 500kbps. Not that great for speed, but considering the alternatives. It was pretty good, just thought I would have seen alittle more of the cops.

Pete,

Thanks Pete (Mr.K) couldn't think of his name. Lonerider; I agree w/you there should be a balance-but even when I see a nicely restored Z to original specs; I dont put the owners car down & tell them how slow it is & that it could be better if he does this or does that: Instead, I'm pleased to see a nicely restored car.

Likewise; they should be thrilled that the Z is getting PR in a field it previously never had a chance in.

W/a V8 the Z is now out performing Vettes, Stangs, & all those other European cars.

If its good enough for Mr.K then it should be good enough for the inlines 6r's.

I'm sure when Columbus asked the Bankers for addt'l funds to transplant his 6 for a V8; so he could sail to the new world; they all asked him why-you dont need a V8; besides you do know the world is flat...Hmmm, when will they stop thinking from the inside ot the box?

Hey, has anyone posted this over on ZCAR.COM? I'd LUV to hear them talk about how the Z is a pig with a V8 in it (lol).

Darius - what mufflers are you running BTW? Didn't sound too bad and I loved the idle lope...
