Guest iskone
After what seems like an etenity I finally got her back. The damage to my wallet was only $500 for the body work. I still need to pick up a few things like an air damn but I've got a line on a passenger fender and I've got a hood I can steal off my 71'. I'm not too impressed with the work. I can already see a few potentail problems with the hood bracket and headlight bucket. But she was never going to be a show car and I should be able to make things look ok. I spent the day sorting out a few problems and found out my water gauge is not working but that the car does not over heat. I'm gonna ditch the Supra dizzy I've got for a 280ZX unit once I can locate one for cheap . She seems to miss after 3500rpm and I don't even want to bother with the dizzy I got right now, but I'll fix the timing anyway just to drive it. My oil pressure always reads zero and I think the sender or gauge is bad so I'm gonna work on that next starting tomorrow. Then get the fender ready for install. I'll install a pre-filter in the fuel line untill I can flush the fuel system and freshen up the carbs. Basically I'm trying to get the things done that will get me on the road/track first/safe I'll worry about other things later. I also placed an order for some Yokohama ES100's 225/50/15. I know they are not the greatest but I don't have the cash for V700's and the R compound would put me in a class way out of my league. I'll snap some pics when I get hte time. stony
Be careful with the oil pressure thing. i saw a guy ruin an engine becasue he had his remote oil filter lines reversed. he thought the gage was wrong. he actually had really low oil pressure :
Guest iskone
I haven't got on it since the drop. I plan to take the sending unit out of my 1' to check if mine is bad I might buy a cheap gague too. Isk

Guest iskone
What? I'll take some pics. If you want to check out that dizzy go to my album. Isk
Guest iskone
Well, that line I had on a 280 fender was garbage. I asked over and over if was a Z and not a ZX, guess what ZX. I'm trying another JY tonight but they want $80 for a good one and will work from there. I've got a 280Z that I'm very temping to take the fender off of. I'd have to fix the rot at the bottom but have the fender that is cut up from my 240 to work with. Also gonna try to find a dizzy in the yard with the stator magnet in good order and just take the stator if possible or pay $40. 40 is worth it if everything else is in good shape sine a new stator is $20 and a relcutor is $10 and I need the plastic bushing at the bottom plus I get a new module. I hope to sell off any modules I get as I have a Crane XR3000. I'll snap those pics of the body work tonight. Isk
Kennysgreen280zt
Which fender do you need? Ive got a pretty nice left one
Guest iskone
The right one. There is a guy out in Kent that will give me one but yesterday I was thinking $35 was worth saving my time. Now I'm thinking screw spending $80 maybe I'll just pick the free one up in Kent. Isk
Workinprogress
Isk, give me a call, I have one you can pick up for free, and I'm local. Its a left one, but needs some work on the bottom. Grant
Guest iskone
Don't have the fender in Kent anymore. They took it to the crusher yesterday!!! Thanks Grant!!! Oh, wait I need the passenger side. DAMN You don't have any spare side markers or 240 front turn singles do you? I don't seem to have your number anymore. Isk
Mr.INSANE
First Off Do Not screw around with this oil pressure read some of my threads and youll see why Figure out if it works Now dont keep pushing it and find out your pumps gone and that you now need to rebuild
Guest iskone
I'm planning to get the oil pressure done before I hit the road. I'll start with the sending unit by swaping one out of my 71' then I'll try the gague next then the pump. I've got a 71' and 78' to take parts from rather keep the 71' in tact though. Guest iskone
Well I can't get a fender on to save my life let alone the headlight bucket. I think that the side that was hit maybe "taller" in the front where the repair was done. I can fit the hacked up fender that came off it on there but that one is bent to the shape of the car already. I got a decent fender from Workinprogress and I'm pretty sure it is not the problem. I'll try another fender off of my 280 and see what happens. Should nothing work I want to take the car back and hope they will fix it. I don't think I'm gonna "make it fit" because I don't want them to say I screwed it up and not them. This really sucks and took alot of the steam I had going. I'd post some pics but can't seem to find my camera. ARGHHHHHHH Time for a nice hoppy IPA Isk
Workinprogress
Isk, that fender has been hanging for almost a year, it may have gotten distorted, I tried to hang it by the center, where the upper frame pads touched. Good luck, sorry it doesnt fit.
Guest iskone
Well I didn't lose all my steam the oil pressure was a bad sending unit. Sitting right at 45 when cold then drops to 35-40 when warm Isk
Guest iskone
I don't think iut's the fender but you bettewr belive I'm hoping it is. I don't know if thwe shop will fix the work or how long they'll have it. I'm gonna pull the whole assembly off my 280 tomorrow to check. Thnaks again!!! Guest iskone
I got some rough measurements done and the area where the headlight bucket attaches to is pushed in about a 1/4-3/16. I hope this can be fixed. Isk
Guest iskone
Been working on the car and the more I look over at my 71' I think I should just swap EVERYTHING into that car. I took a real good look at all the little custom BS in my car and I think the only thing I would need to get is a front solid diff mount and camber plates. My solid rear difff mount and dual masters can be unbolted. If I go through with this I would swap to 2 completly so they can both run and drive then I guess if I can't get the body shop to fix the work I'll "make it fit" and part with my 72'. There would still be a few good things left on her plus it would drive but I couldn't ask for much. So what do you guys think my Centerline Autodrags will look like on my 71' Why I'm I so discouraged? I want ot race next weekend so I do feel a little rushed. Guest JAMIE T
I love the Autodrags! I have the set off my '71! Mine are 14's though but are pretty wide to fill-up the ZG's. Just a little advise. If you CAN find a fender that is not beat all to crap and only has rust in the lower portion, buy it and fix the rust. I have a new fender from VB or something like that and it's fit is terrible. The old rusty fender (which I cut the rust out and repaired) on the other side fits perfectly. I will sell the VB fender if I can find another OE fender, even if I need to fix rust in it. I'd gladly fix some rust instead of chasing a fender all over the front of the car trying to get it to fit just to find out that I need to grind it here and weld it there, etc... Good luck. The white car looked good with the Centerlines!
olie05
the centerlines will look very good, especially if you choose to ride that low!
