Video- 75 280 LT1/T56: It runs!

I've been immersed in my next swap while I was working out a few bugs on the 280. Today I borrowed my kid's video camera & shot a walk around of the 280 while it was running (I install Chevy V8s into cars better than my work as a cameraman :) ).

 

Still need to get tach working, and the electronic speedo seems to work, but after it stops, the needle jumps up to about 40 and back to 0. There must be some air left in the clutch line as well, it won't fully disengage. Oh, and it needs paint ;).

(2.8 MB WMV file, should play in latest version of media player, if not, probably easiest to right click and "save target as..")

 

EDIT- You may have to hit "refresh" several times to get this to play in IE- I have no idea why this is, but I got a page error the first two times & then it played OK.

I had to upgrade codecs before I could view it, let me see if I can convert it to MPEG-4.

 

File was edited to a WMV file. Let me know if any other problems.

wmv files require newest Media Player

 

Plays fine on my v. 9.00.00.3344. I can create it in various formats, but figured wmv would be easiest to load & view.

The jumping speedo is what it's suppose to do. Mine does it upon startup and shutdown. Also it wont work until you program it with a known 2 mile run. Look for the instructions on the Autometer website.

 

You might also need a 10k pullup resistor to make it work right.

Thanks Dale. I know the gauges in my Bonneville SSEi used to do a full sweep & then go to 0. The speedo is a Classic Instruments Cobra reverse-wind. I'm a while away from driving the car, but this info will help with some of the issues.

Nice to see another LT1 280 running...

tell me about the mounts and belt config for the A/C compressor you have. Maybe snap a couple of pics.

In summary, I didn't like the aftermarket designs where the belt ran up high across the front of the motor- a safety issue & it just looks stupid. I took both the Vette and F-body accessory mounts & made a Hybrid setup :). I used the Vette mount & fabbed up mounting brackets for the F-body compressor where the alternator would normally be. I used washers to space it so the belt would align OK.

 

I put the alternator in the OEM F-body spot, and since I was running an F-body harness, everything plugged in OK here. The PS was deleted, and I used an old pump I gutted as one of the idlers for the rather long belt setup. It has two tensioners, and so far there have been no issues. I had to tweak the water pump heater hose outlet a little.
