warrenp
alright, maybe you guys would know better. what would be an equivaliant alturnitive to a holset hx 40?
mtcookson
Power output wise... it would probably be the same as the Garrett GT40R. The compressor map is likely quite different and I'm not sure how the turbine would match up but airflow wise, they should max out at the same. warrenp
thats for the response. i found 2 on ebay. one for $399 the other $1799 what about this one?? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8074019633&fromMakeTrack=true also the application is for a dodge diesel. i'm looking for alturnitaves other than the few suggeted turbo's that are all holset turbo's. i figure since all the people at the dodge diesel forum all using these holset turbo no one is expermenting with other kinds. i know this isn't a dodge diesel forum but i still get all my best info here. ANY HELP IS GREAT!! Thank you guys for any other answers in advance
mtcookson
Ahhh, ok. So you're setting this up for a Dodge truck itself. Garrett does make turbos specifically for the 5.9 Cummins. I believe the actual turbo they use is a GT37R, which is actually kind of hard to find on ebay. I would actually love to have one of those for a gasoline application as they have a huge compressor map much like the Holset turbos do. I see no reason why the GT40 wouldn't work, however you need to be sure to get the exhaust just right. You'd basically want to try matching the HX40 exhaust housing to the Garrett housing so that you have correct spooling times.
thehelix112
http://www.holset.co.uk/files/2_1_1_4-Holset%20HX40.php Lists HX40's flow rate (maximum I suppose) at 0.53kg/sec (70lb/min) which matches the GT4088's compressor map nicely: http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/catelog/Turbochargers/GT40/GT4088_703457_2.htm Dave

Guest alex86na2t
That is BS, 700hp? that thing would support maybe 550bhp at the most. Be careful buying cheap ebay turbos, i know a few people who have gotten screwed. They got ripoffs where the compressor wheel hit the housing and shot aluminum shaving into their intercooler pipe. Never hit 1 psi
warrenp
what the differance from a gt40 and a gt4088? i found a holset hx40 with down pipe for $400 off a dodge diesel site but the guy will not respond. kinda annoying
Clifton
The 88 refers to the exducer diameter on of the compressor wheel. There is a GT4082 also. GT40 is just the family like T3, there are many different trims.
warrenp
i see there are really alot of choices. well i guess it depends on what i want. i just want more power not for anything particular but i want somthing i will be happy with i found this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/T3-GT40-Blowzilla-setup-t3-t4-garrett-turbo_W0QQitemZ230015719158QQihZ013QQcategoryZ33742QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem seems liek with the t3 housing it should spool up a bit fater but would it be what i want? would it be suggested for my application? Clifton
That isn't a Garrett turbo regardless on what the dishonest crook says it is. It is an Ebay special, "T70" with a 60.5mm compressor wheel. It isn't a Garrett or a GT40 though.
warrenp
ahh this sucks! funny how things work out. when you have the money to buy what you want you can't find it. and when you have no money you find a ton of them all at once. turbo_fb
i found this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/T3-GT40-Blowzilla-setup-t3-t4-garrett-turbo_W0QQitemZ230015719158QQihZ013QQcategoryZ33742QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem It looks like a ssautochrome turbo and not even close to Garrett. On the ssauto site you can see different turbos with Garret and IHI internals but that is just BS. Its china internals all the way. Would be better to go for a real quality turbo so you know what you have.

Guest 73LT1Z
I saw this info posted on another board, take it for what it is worth (it was in table format, if you copy and paste to a word processing program you can return it to that format) : Model Compressor Turbine Holset H1D 1.85 2.165 Holset H1D 1.969 2.165 Holset H1D/E 1.969 2.165 Holset H1D/E 2.047 2.165 Holset H1D/E 2.126 2.165 Holset H1C/E 2.126 2.244 Holset H1C/E 2.283 2.244 Holset H1C/E 2.126 2.362 Holset H1E 2.205 2.362 Holset H1E 2.283 2.362 TS04 2.300 3.304 60-1 2.324 3.000 Holset H1E 2.362 2.559 Holset HX40 2.362 2.559 T-61 2.382 3.544 62-1 2.441 3.000 Holset HX50 2.48 2.835 T-64 2.490 3.670 T-66 2.580 3.584 Holset HX50 2.638 3.031 Holset HX55 2.638 3.031 T-70 2.720 3.850 Holset HX55 2.835 3.031 T-72 2.840 4.030 T-76 3.020 4.030 Turbo CFM Racing HP Daily HP HX35 600 420 330 HX40 800 560 440 T66 800 560 440 B1 900 630 495 H2E 1000 700 550 HX50 1000 700 550 HX55 1050 735 578 HT3B 1100 770 605 T76 1350 945 743 HT60 1400 980 770 B2 1500 1050 825 HX60 1550 1085 853 T88 1450-1750 1015-1225 798-963 HT4B 1800 1260 990 Big Brother 1900 1330 1045 T91 2000 1400 1100 HC5A/HX82 2450 1715 1348 T100 2600 1820 1430 T105 2900 2030 1595 Holset compressor maps are apparently hard to come by. There are a lot of Holset used turbos on Ebay now for $25~900+. Some are listed as broken, others as new. From what I've read on the HX40 and H1E on Turbo Mustangs, they work fairly well on a small block V8. I'm looking at these for my Gen 3 V8 Supra. Note that the referenced Ebay seller has "private" feedback. Sounds like to me a lot of people got burned & he wants to cover this up since he is selling junk. As far as those $200~300 "new" turbos go, if it sounds too good to be true...
warrenp
yeah the H1E is suppose to be an equivalant to a hx40 i guess the hx40 replace the h1e. i believe the stock turbo on my truck is wh1c. i was thinking of making a hybrid wh1c/h1e turbo. or a hx35w/hx40. for faster spool. thanks fro the info!
