Hi all,

I'm helping my next door neaighbor freshen the suspension of his 71 240Z. I have ordered the struts replacements, a ploy bushing kit, anti roll bar bushings. He wants to keep the stock springs. I'll also be replacing the parking brake cable, pads shoes, rotors, and drums. Calipers and cylinders on a case by case.

Now the darn question,,,

Any other, " you really shoulds, while you are theres", good tips, or tricks would be welcome. I have plenty of PB Plaster, and torches...

I did notice that the shifter is really sloppy, are there replaceable parts for the shifter? I have the 82 page service manual, (lol) clear as mud on the issue, unless you want to rebuild the box...lol

Thanks in advance.

Poly steering rack bushings and getting rid of the rubber steering coupler are two must have swaps IMO. Other than that, the Z front ends are pretty bulletproof.

I had my 5 speed rebuilt and they did replace the shifter bushings. Made a big difference in the shifter feel.

Those links should help a lot. The transmission changed in mid 71. You'd have to identify your trans and then make the appropriate fix. The shifter bushings in the later transmissions are easy to replace and cost about $5 from Nissan. The early transmission has a different bushing setup and is known to be a sloppy shifter. I think you can swap the shifter bushings in that one too but I haven't ever tried. I just swapped in 5 speeds and junked the old 4 speeds.
