nazar
I have some lowering springs on my Z that came with it when i first bought it, some blue springs, the car is lowered probably 1.5" Its got the lt1/t56 and all that in it now I will go coilovers soon, but for now im gonna get the tokiko adj. illumina shocks The car is way too soft now, especially in the rear, will the shocks themselves on a stiffer setting, firm the car up any? The rear especially, it squats too much, plus i think the rear shocks are blown, it sways and bounches too much and is softer then the front I already have springs, probably slightly stiffer then stock, if i were to set the tokikos on the hardest setting, will the current blue springs work them too much(meaning allow too much movement since they are not very stiff?) Or will this be a decent setup? I just dont want to go cuttin up the struts now and spend another $500 on coilovers, i rather do the shocks that seem to be very old and beat. The car sits perfect the way it is anyways Thanks guys
johnc
The shocks will stiffen the initial response of the chassis but the overall balance will remain the same. Shocks only affect the transients in a suspension (bumps, corner entry, brake dive, squat, etc.).
OlderThanMe
you don't want to set them on the top setting...it will be like having your suspension solid. You know you can use your current springs on a coilover setup is you are careful in removing the lower perches and don't cut away too much metal. with the illuminas don't pay more than $100 each after shipping. I got mine for $395 or so off of ebay from jdmwerks.
Cyind
What year are you doing this on? If you have a 240 or early 260 you should not have problems like I'm now facing... Johnc, Do you know where someone can get the right sleeves and the lower seats with lock rings for the 2.185 OD strut tubes. I order a coil-over kit from MSA and everything is for a 240 2.02 OD tubes. They sent the BZ3015's for the front of a 240 but say put those in the rear housings and cut them. They sent BZ3099's which are for a Toyota 87-89 MR2 and say use them in the front tubes. They are mailing me some instructions but have me all messed up on what to do now! Like get tubes for a 240 and put my 280 stuff on them because I already have new bearings, seals and other 280 parts! I also have my 3:70 LSD and ZXT adap's from Ross that I'm going to be using. Any suggestions you might have would help me!!!! I do have a pair of BZ3012's for the 280 front struts and the adjustable camber plates don't fit over the top of those struts as I recall! JMortensen
Check the FAQ's for info on sectioning struts, or just search. It's been discussed many times.
Cyind
Been there read that... But my main question was MSA said to cut the REAR TUBES and use the Front Struts there! Then take the MR2 inserts and use then in the front! This does not help also because the 4" sleeves they sent for my 280 are the size of the 240 housings and so are the adj camber plates. I ordered all the parts for a 280 and nothing is fitting... Thanks for you input I guess I'll have to wait on the instructions MSA is mailing me... Like I said I have all 280 parts and ordered what I thought was a coil-over kit for a 280... When I ordered I was told they came with 240 front struts and I would need to section the front tubes... One more time they sent things for a 240 and I've had them tell two diff things so far.
DaleMX
Nazar, I ended up with Ross coilovers and Illuminumas. The springs are 225 rear and 175 front. I have had the rear done for about 2 months now (front is still stock) and it has made a huge difference. It's a little on the stiff side, but I dont really have any roll even with the rear roll bar gone. The squat on acceleration is much better now also. I think there are some pictures in the link below.

Then take the MR2 inserts and use then in the front! So what is the problem? That's what I did' date=' and I sectioned the fronts 1 5/8" and the rears 2". Worked great. This does not help also because the 4" sleeves they sent for my 280 are the size of the 240 housings and so are the adj camber plates. I ordered all the parts for a 280 and nothing is fitting... The camber plate should be the same for the 240 or 280 though. Like I said I have all 280 parts and ordered what I thought was a coil-over kit for a 280... When I ordered I was told they came with 240 front struts and I would need to section the front tubes... One more time they sent things for a 240 and I've had them tell two diff things so far. You should really start your own thread, but so far all I'm hearing is you got the wrong threaded tubes. Everything else sounds right to me.
