Guest SuperCobra4Me
looks good man ! I've been in your shoes! My project since 2004 has been the following vehicle: ( and I can understand what you are going thru). BTW my engine is a 2003 Cobra engine, also using the tranny, IRS and many other items from a wrecked 03 Cobra: Click to make it Bigger !! A lot of Pictures, info and Videos of my Project SuperCobra in my website: www.cobra4me.com follow the links to project SuperCobra (have a few other projects going on at the moment as well). I recently tried to swap the VALVE COVERS for those of a 2005 Ford GT and I was able to swap the passenger side but not the driver's side, the footbox and steering systems are in the way ! so as I said I understand what you are and will be going thru ! anyways, I just registered because I am thinking on buying a '75 280Z and install a 289 engine in it (after I really drive the hell out of the L28 first). Chewievette
I'll be following your car closely, the more info you can provide the better. I'd love to put the 03/04 cobra motor in my 240z! I just Love the way they sound, it is my favorite modern V8.
Guest SuperCobra4Me
289 Engine ? An old ford pushrod engine? or a 281? 4.6 Modular well, I have a '66 289 Block sitting in my garage and might have to put it to good use. I am also installing a 2003 Mustang GT (281) into an 87 Stang: http://cobra4me.com/phpBB/viewforum.php?f=
blueovalz
I "heart" my 289. The small "old ford pushrod" engine is tons of fun in a light Z.
Twoeightnine
You bet. I have an all aluminum dressed 289 "Edelbrock" motor for the Z. Gonna be fun. Cant wait. They should have fun together! SuperCobra4Me...dont let the block go to waste. It's a spunky block when properly dressed.
JustinOlson
That motor is WIDE! I love that motor, but you could never do turbos on it with how tight the engin bay is. How much does this motor weigh? Justin
jnewby
the intake is for more torque than horse power but it is an amazing engine if you want tips try www.markVIII.org they have a lot of info.
Organdonor
PnyPwr, Have you made any more progress on this swap? Also, do you have some clearer pictures from the top and bottom if possible. TIA Renn
JustinOlson
Bump, I found a local Lincoln 32v engine locally that I'm considering swaping in. I want to see some more detailed pictures of this car. Justin
randy 77zt
not only high perf cars like mustangs got good engines.its usually cheaper to get a lincoln motor.and who beats on lincolns?if you want a big motor try a lincoln navigator.5.4l 32 valve. JustinOlson
The navigator engines are 34-35" total width. They flat out wont fit between the strut towers. The 4.6 will fit though as you can see from the above pictures. Justin
defrag010
I scored me a mark8 pullout for a few hundred bucks, I'm thinking about putting this in my zx!!
defrag010
PnyPwr, did the stock oil pan fit on the crossmember?
JustinOlson
Looks like I was wrong about the width of the engines. Heres a good link: http://www.sullivanperformance.com/YVS450/tech/tech1.htm 4.6L: 26.625" width 5.4L: 28.25" width
