Z24O
hi guys tried searching without success anyone fitted an AOD auto trans in their Z? wondering if the trans tunnel is big enough? also wondering how strong these transmissions are (HP) and how the ratios compare to a C4......really need the overdrive cheers paul
Dp351zcar
I test fitted a AOD in my 71, the way my engine fit is with the oil pan behind the cross member. With that placement the back of the engine is right at the firewall and the tranny fit but I cut off the little blocks on each side that hit the firewall and I had removed the Z's stock tranny mounts off the tunnel. I didn't mess with it much as I am going with a T5. Good luck Don

ITSAV6
http://www.becontrols.com They make one of the best shift kits for the AOD and have lots of info on the site. I have their kit in my AOD in my Mustang. You can set shift feel for every gear.
onephatz
I have the same shift kit for my aod as suggested above. it has really good documentation and you can't really screw it up. I called the guys there and the fella I talked to said with their shift kit the tranny should hold up to ~350hp before a one way clutch dies inside. ITSAV6
With a hardened lock up shaft it is good to 450 max....if assembled correctly.

LMoore56
Get one of the kits that have the extra clutch disk and it will handle alot more hp.
Guest Fairlady351ZX
As to the ratios, I have been told that AOD is 1:1 in third lockup, and 0.67 overdriven in fourth lockup. Members might be able to elucidate and/or provide the firt and second ratios.
