blochparty
The oil pump on my '75 L28 motor gave up on the freeway and the motor seized completely. I haven't dropped the oil pan yet, but I did pull the valve cover and the cam journals (?) are mangled, cracked, etc., so I have a feeling it's pretty tatered--it obviously got pretty hot. I can't see any cracks in the block, but you know how that goes. Assuming there are no cracks in the block, can something this mangled be bored out & rebuilt? Or should I just haul it to the dump? I've listed it on craiglist a couple times to no avail... I just finished my sbc swap, so now I'm trying to clear out the garage.
johnc
Without taking it a part you'll never know if it can be rebuilt. Is it worth spending the time and money to disassemble it? IMHO, no, if its a stock engine.
blochparty
Thanks John! I'll take it apart and see what's inside; at least so I can get it onto my utility trailer to take to the dump. It was stock, had 200K miles, the fuel injection was shot, etc., etc., etc.
Clifton
Also check the main caps. They should be snug when you pull them out. If they are loose from getting it hot down there, it's junk.
Mr.INSANE
i would consider finding a new(er) motor from a local junkyard becuase it sounds like your head is probally toast
