LS1 240Z Posted August 23, 2006 Share Posted August 23, 2006 this is the shell in all its muliti colored glory passanger side inner fender well, you can see the patch pannels and also my subframe poking through the firewall you can see backhalving and the subframes i ran through the passanger compartment, i still have to primer all of this and paint it matte black drivers side frame mating to rear backhalf passanger side engine bay backhalf, LS1 fuel tank laying on floor you can see how far it is stripped down and also the nasty sunroof hole i have to fix subframe comming through drivers side firewall and T-ing into front subframe frame through passanger compartment as you can see i have a bit more work to do haha:redface: Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

But, the welds look a bit globby to me, maybe its just the pics, but some of them look like they're just sitting on the metal, not penetrating much. Good luck, and stay safe. LS1 240Z Posted August 31, 2006 Author Share Posted August 31, 2006 ok... #1, i dont particuarly care about "legality" here in indiana. they dont even look at the car or care about it when you plate it. that being said, mail people drive around in RHD cars, and i have driven one before, its not that bad. #2, for the sunroof hole, i thought about patching it with sheet metal but i dont think im good enough yet to do it without warping it, so i think im going to cut it a top off another car, im not sure how much of the sheet metal ill use, ill be generous in cutting it off the other car though #3 yeah, the welds are very globby, but they have been gone over like 3 times, the first welds just looked really bad, i think they fully penetrated though, then i welded over them again just to make them look better. also, im still going to add a 45* angled piece in both the front and rear adding strength to it. Challenger Posted August 31, 2006 Share Posted August 31, 2006 Personally I dont think adding a roll cage fixes the problem of a bad weld. The frame will be only strong at the roll cage mounting points and it my put even more stress on a bad weld depending on where the weld is. For example if you have to plastic peices bolted together they wont break as easy (stress is spread out). Switch one to aluminum and the plastic will break (all stress is on plastic) . 240zV8 Posted September 1, 2006 Share Posted September 1, 2006 I want to try a patch, like if I welded a X across the underside of the roof with some thicker sheet metal strips connected to the posts, and that way u could have something for the patch to sit on and strengthen the sheet metal.... I just think i'd mess up, and the windows wouldn't fit right if i cut the whole top off.... or i could just leave the sunroof, paint my car black and get limo tint on it...lol.. "Mexico GT" lol, im being dead serious, they are straight out of the 1980s, they need reapolstered though, very bad, they are a fixed seat, and are very tight (i have a 36 waist and i fit perfectly in them, my fat friends cant sit in them) i will try to get some pics soon. i also bought a set of corbeau seats (i think) they dont have any writing on them though, the guy i bought them from said that they were ordered without the writing on them. they are these seats but they are in black (i just put them in blue so that you could see the 3D of it) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
