SHO-Z
Which one is better? I have looked through the internet and really cannot find any difference. I have found more stories of dead MSD boxes than Mallory. The only big difference I can see is I can save some cash on the Mallory box. My stock ignition need some help at idle to clean up the high HC for emissions test. Please give me some feed back on which one to buy, I have never run one of these boxes. Michael
The local hot-rod shop holds Mallory products in very low regard, with preference towards MSD. Of course, it's possible that this guy is a dealer for MSD, and his recommendation is merely good business. On the various Chevy performance sites the prevailing opinion seems to be that MSD "ready to run" distributors (pejoratively called "ready to quit") have weak spark and are unreliable; they are perhaps inferior to the GM HEI. However, the MSD stand-alone products generally get good reviews, provided that the coils are made in the USA (some are, some are not). I am thinking of getting the MSD 8394 ("digital") distributor, with 6-AL box and 8202 coil.
Cruez
I've personally had one dead MSD box... What about the Crane units....any good?
Guest Mike
I just ordered a Crane unit because I've read they're more reliable than many others including Mallory and MSD. We'll see.
