Careless
you read that right. the new fairlady Z has been released. it's got the hood from the original early S30's now, and the new VQ35HR motor. here's a bit more information, and a picture or two =) http://www.worldcarfans.com/news.cfm/country/jcf/newsID/2070111.004/nissan/revised-nissan-fairlady-z-revealed-ja new colour new nismo edition, with another new colour. Not too bad. Major update is the engine, that is almost 80% new. go to http://www.vq35HR.com to get some new info on that engine if you need to. Guest TeamNissan
I know I'll be lynched for saying it but I dont like it just like I dont like the reg 350z lol. It lacks style. I feel its a z for the starbucks people lol. Just my opinion though.
tannji
If I saw that back when I first fell in love with the Z... I would have thought it was a Porche concept car, lol. Nissan needs to do a retro model, like so many other manufacturers have done recently. I am not really into Mustangs, but that newer model is good example of a modern retro, IMO. Cant say that I like it.... I like it less than the current 350Z, in fact. Too bad.
SteelToad
Aside from the Z emblem, and perhaps the rims, there's nothing about that to make me say "I've got to get one of those". I still say the new Z looks more like a 10 year old Eclipse than it does a Datsun
zedevan
its not really much of a change at all, different bonnet and boot? woo hoo...i think the first 350z bonnet looked more like a 240z in terms of making teh bonnet look long and narrow, this makes it look shorter and fatter, although it is raised in a similar manner to s30's, and pointed after this many years its less of a change than the local car manufactures do in one year to the family cars they sell...besides the engine. if this is in the same price category as the new audi TT's and i had that kind of money i think i know which i'd be looking at closer in terms of styling, then i'd buy neither and get something else lol the silver/grey colour looks interesting though, much like that flat grey that ppl seem to be painting on their cars, however in the other pic it looks more metalic
jimbob_racing
I agree. The car never had enough styling cues that said "Z car" to me. I particularly hate the angular head and tail lights and think they'll probably look very dated in another 10 years. I also though the car should have been badged as a 350ZX but that's an argument for another day. I'll have to see the hood in person to actually judge it but it doesn't look bad in the pictures. Maybe if they rounded up the headlights a bit and went to a tail light panel with some sort of family resemblence to the earlier cars I'd warm up to it. Guest Death69
yea, not too crazy about it now. ill have to actually see one in person to decided if i like it or not. i kind of like that atleast they are showing some retro cues though. but i agree, the car never screamed BUY ME like when i first saw a 240z. and retro car would be awesome! Guest TeamNissan
I personaly liked the 1999 240z concept car, I bet if they had tossed a I6 in it instead of the ka I4 some of us would be driving one right now.
280z1975
Nissan has to know they go the 350z wrong when the people who love the orignal Z's aren't at all flattered with the new model. I will say I don't hate the 350, in fact I would own one if I could afford it, but I think it could/should be a different model than a Z. Of course the 350 was probably made to appeal to a demographic that isn't on this site. If they redid the rear end of the car, added a few changes to the front. It would be a GREAT redo on the origional 240z. -Gregg-
Mr.INSANE
Just for anyone who hasnt seen the 240Z concept here it is I like the mirrors imo A KA24 As a motor was a bad choice imo they couldve thrown in a lot of different options hell an SR20DET Or CA18DET wouldve been quite sick
cygnusx1
I dont hate either one, but I am very glad there are still S30's out there we can buy instead.
Guest TeamNissan
Ya I wish they would have stuck with that renewal program they had in like 1998. They were buying s30's and factory restoring them to brand new and selling them at dealers for 24k. I bet there were doing it to up public anxiety for the 240z concept then when it didnt pan out they said screw it. I think ANY inline 4 would have been a mistake. What would have been wrong with n/a rb series motor? People have been building 2.4 rbs for a while now, I'm sure they could have too. Thats just the concept car too, Nissan has a habit of making there concepts uglier then the production cars, i.e. the mid4, 350z, skyline yada yada. I bet if it went into production it would have looked FANTASTIC esp pre 2000, befor every 2 door coupe started looking exactly alike. To Defend my post lol I Believe the concept car was entirely built around the 4 cylinder An RB Would indeed be great but Nissan is known for savoring it for the New US Skyline so it probally wouldnt happen
Guest TeamNissan
I was nocking your post just saying they wanted a 2.4 for the 240 just like all the z's. I just think a rb 2.4 would have suited the concept better. The new us skyline is going to be a 7 speed TTv6 according to nissan. I am going to guess based off the new vq they released in the fairlady.
hoov100
if only nissan made a 4.0 TT v6, i would definatly put that in a z32..

Challenger
A KA24 As a motor was a bad choice imo they couldve thrown in a lot of different options hell an SR20DET Or CA18DET wouldve been quite sick I think a 4 cylinder would be a very big mistake. Especcially a 1.8 liter. The z's a 6 cylinder car, I wouldnt neccesarily car if its v6 or L6 but it would be like putting a 4cy in the challenger concept. Id like to see a dohc unicam strait 6 like honda dirtbikes. Nissan cant keep getting larger and larger a motor or we'd have a 560z, so probably just a 3.5 liter. At some point you have to realize car companies really dont care about the old z's design unless theyre loosing buisness and theyre a demand for a retro car. And from what Ive seen it doesnt look like 350z sales are slacking.
