Guest zfan
My 1971 240Z is in need of struts on all four corners. I've never installed struts only shocks and have been told to pay someone to do it as it is a pain in the butt. Anyone had struts installed? If so what kind of money are we talking about? Thanks for any help you can give. zfan..Mike
Mikelly
Mike, I don't think it is a pain at all... About three-four hours worth of work... Do you have a garage to work in? Biggest headache is the brake lines getting in the way.. You have to unclip the line retainers from the strut housing and get a spring compressor, but other than that is isn't a real headache at all... Figure on (For cheap parts counter inserts) $160 Minimum for parts, and probably 5-6 hours book labor if you pay to have it done. blueovalz
Plus think of all the advice you can pass on to the next member who has never done it.

auxilary
if you're replacing with oem-sized parts parts (ie. not coilovers where you have to modify the perches, etc), it's so simple even i could do it. you'll need a spring compressor (10 bucks for a pair from www.harborfreight.com , they're cheap, but you'll only need them once), and maybe a speed bleeder if you decide to disconnect the brake lines when removing the strut assembly. there'll be 3 14mm bolts on top of each strut mount holding it to the strut tower. I am pretty sure you can move the struts out of the way enough without having to disconnect them from the lower balljoints on the control arm...but if that's necessary, 2 bolts hold them in on the front control arms, and 2 more bolts hold the trailing arm if it doesn't flex down far enough for you to take out the strut assembly.
