Modern Motorsports Ltd
yup, weights are interesting, it'd be fun to see a hp consumption/rotating weight analysis. Many 17" rims are mid 20 lbs/wheel and higher in the 'generally' available street wheels. 16lbs or less for one wheel vs. 25+ for another HAS to have some effect. Whether it's of any significance to us is what I'd like to see proven. FWIW, standard Riken 16x7's are ~23lbs each, 17x8 momo arrows are 23-25lbs each, Z32TT 16x7.5's are 16lbs as are 16x8 RX7TT wheels.
johnc
Heh, heh... The 15 x 8 Monocoques I was trying to sell weigh... drumroll please... 8.6 lbs each. The 16 x 9s I'm having built will weigh... 11 lbs each and the Hoosier A3S03 245/45-16 tires weigh 18 lbs each, so my total wheel, tire, lug nut weight will be ~30lbs per corner. Guest RON JONES
I ended up buying four New rims for My car and got lucky enough to sell a four of My old rims to Stony. When I got My new rims from UPS,I was walking down My drive way and thinking,Man these feel reely light.I looked at the lable and it was 33lbs shiping weight.I said to Myself, boy 16lbs per rim,not bad(were talking 14x15 rims here,BIG).I had My tires mounted and then used the same boxs that My rims came in to ship the Rear rims to Stony.when I had them weighed,to My surprise they weighed 43lbs!I can't beleave the new one are 5lbs lighter per rim than the old ones!10lbs of rotating weight is a good amount of savings in drag racing!Stony You still got a great deal.I was just surprized at how much weight I saved.I wasn't even thinking about weight savings, just the looks of a different rim to go with the new paint.I didn't notice the saving on the fronts, but I don't think it could of been that much. Guest RON JONES
Rear 15x15 are 21.5 each,if were talking about the Auto drag. The fronts I'm not sure,I think they were around 10lbs each??I'm not sure
Mikelly
I used to Run Marsh Racing 3 piece aluminum/ Carbon wheels and they were 15X8 and weighed 9-10# each. Marsh racing calculated the rotating weight and "CLAIMED" that losing 10# per corner with the right wheel and tire combo was akin to adding 100HP... The added benefit here is that in autocross you get additional performance gain of better braking, as it is easier to slow a lighter wheel/tire combo, and spin it back up to speed coming out of a corner! Huge difference in acceleration! Seat of the pants feel and lap times revealed they were quicker... Mike Kelly
Guest RON JONES
I would agree,Drag racing or Auto Cross, rotatating weight is HUGE!!Braking,Exceleration, they say more rotateing weight You can loose, the better. One reason I run alumuinum rods.I gave one to Mike kelly,He'll tell You,its a very large rod,but very surprizing to hold it a feel that it so light! Mikelly
Yea, Jamie T. was at my house over the weekend and we were salivating over the damned thing Ron! Nice, super light rod... Same reason we throw away $1000 mountain bike frames when they reach the 3 year mark. Tha aluminum has a finite life expectancy! Guest RON JONES
I was waiting for You to chime in Clint. You did get a good deal, and Yes You will up grade down the road as I did. There is nothing wrong with the Auto Drags, there just a bit out dated. They still make them and they sell,Can't be all that bad.I just don't like the look of a soild satin finish rim.
