clsatt
apparently I can't pass the inspection with out a fully functioning parking brake. I emailed the zbarn folks hoping they might have what I need but I'm one of those instant gratification types... so I was hoping some one could email me a picture of the part so that I might be able to fab one out so that I can drive legally untill the barn gets one in stock. the part I'm missing is the locking mechanism that fits between the button rod thingy and the lower sprocket piece. I'll try to put a picture of what I do have so that maybe you can see what I don't. a picture of it over some grid paper should be all that I need. thanks, chris

johnc
Are running the stock 240Z rear drum brakes or a rear disk conversion?

Mikelly
CLSAT, I can't see the pic. It's X'ed out... Being in Virginia, You could avoid the whole need for a safety inspection by getting it registered as an antique. You still get to use it as often as you like, and the only catch is that you have to have one other car registered in Va. as your primary vehicle. clsatt
I don't know whats up with the pic, I'm using kodak if that could be something to do with it. I spoke to the folks at the dmv about registering it as an antique and the told me that not only do I have to have another vehicle registered, I'm also limmited to 250 miles per month and can only drive it to and from shows or to get repair work done. I also asked about same year tags. those I guess are the same as regular tags, ie, inspections and soforth. I found some one that is willing to send me an ebrake off of an old parts car they have. hopefully it'll be here in about a week. I guess worst case senario, they won't pass me on a number of things, I'll just get the antique tags so I can still work on it and drive it on ocation. at least till all the little inspection things are worked out. thanks, chris
Mikelly
They're telling you wrong on that one. What I've found is that it's best to just go print the info off of the DMV website. The goons at the counter dont know the recent changes (Recent as of 8 years ago!!!) and will tell you exactly what was told to you, which is wrong. The law is that you can drive it at ANY TIME for PLEASURE. You can't drive it to and from work all the time, as a primary vehicle. You can go up to 250miles from your home, which in most cases takes you to the state line, which then allows you to go beyond those borders. Do a search on the code and you'll find this is exactly the case... Then print it and keep it with you. Mike

bjhines
Just keep a tire block in the car and turn the wheel to curb it on hills. Don't rely on the engine to keep it in place. The cylinders will leak down.. I have noticed that often it will sit still for a few minutes... but once it gets rolling it just keeps on creeping down hill. The thing I was always hassled about was the AIR pump. I have a nice original AIR Injection kit I slap on the car to pass. I got by without an original exhaust manifold. I was lucky enough to have a header with AIR injection ports in the right places. I also have an original 72 AIR tube set that bolts in. Some inspectors won't pass these old cars without a meticulous check. I have learned to take it in to shops and I avoid the Inspection only places.
