  1. I think he's right about the 350z seats. check this out. http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=364944
  2. check out acme adapters. they sell everything to get a WV TDI to mate up to a supra 5speed. it could be done... just hasn't been.
  3. after searching this site and others, it looks like any of the bmw l6 engines that displace 2.8 or more have a rear sump that should settle behind the rack on a z quite nicely. I know here in VA a donor car for the swap is relatively easy to find at a reasonable price (stupid VA drivers have a tendency to rearend nice cars at speed, leaving engine, transmission, and electrical well intact) any ideas why no one has attempted one of these swaps in the past?
  4. there has been mention of using a vr6 in earlier posts, which I thought might be a great idea. I'm currently dding a jetta with the 24v and I have to say it scoots along pretty well-- 204 hp, 214 ftlb. easily supercharged or turboed. I've tinkered with the air cooled a bit myself, you realize its a rear engine design?
  5. I was thinking about this myself but with a 3.2 m3 engine. no funds at the moment and a kid on the way... it may be a while.

    3.0 944?

I don't really want to spend thousands to get this to work. I was just hoping to find out if it's possible. if it was, it could be a long, long, long term project. I guess it's back to the drawing board... I guess half baked backyard mechanic Frankenstein builds don't really get drawn out first... I'll come up with something. thanks for humoring me in the mean time. chris

    3.0 944?

sorry, I thought you meant it would be longer... that does kindof put a damper on it. any one have any ideas?

    3.0 944?

I get that it has a shaft that runs from front to rear, I understand that it would be a hurdle. what I don't understand is why it would be a big deal for the engine to sit between the front wheels as opposed to against the firewall. and as for the "track", I could see the rear wheels needing to be pushed further away from the transmission to adapt to the new axle geometry. but that might not even be the case. I don't want anyone upset about this, I'm just brainstorming. if I'm on to something, fantastic. if I'm off tell me where. I feel like this engine/trans/diff setup should be an option, be it out of a porsche or a vette.

I don't follow. do you mean a wider wheel base or longer?

    3.0 944?

I don't have an engine yet, nor can I afford one right now. I'm just planning ahead and hoping to get everyones thoughts on the subject. research and whatnot. and yeah, an s30. I have a 1970 with a good straight body but the engine sounds like it's been smokeing cigaretts for 40 some od years. hacking coughing stuff comes up every now and again. its gross I might fix the engine, I might not. I'm really just feeling out different possibilities. I want it to be kind of a period correct racer but at the same time, I'm not opposed to going with an engine transplant...for the right engine.

    3.0 944?

there was a 3 liter and, I believe, a 2.8. I was wondering in particular about the 3 liter because it seems to have physically larger dimentions, not just stroked out. http://www.autometricsmotorsports.com/images/cars/ron/ron_g50.jpg it just seems like it could be done to me. the axles on the z would have to be modified/custom made to bolt up. the tank would have to move back. custom mounts. the reason it interests me; 3 liter 4 cylinder = torque. I know it's no v8, I'm just burned out on it. one can only eat mac and cheese or hear about eating mac and cheese for so long. try talking to someone that has only eaten mac and cheese for thirty years...thats how I feel about v8s in Zs. it works, it's great, its proven, the torque, the power, the parts are everywhere, their cheap. fine. have you ever had caviar? yeah it tastes like salt and it costs 45 bucks for a dollop, but thats what I want to see in my z, I want caviar under the hood. sorry... I have some serious pent up frustration... oh, and with the engine trans layout it should have really good ballance. just a thought. chris

    3.0 944?

"one of these" referring to basically any z. the main challenge in my eyes would be to mate the tranny up in the back or converting it to run a standard behind the engine style transmission.

    3.0 944?

has any one dropped a 944 engine in one of these?
  15. I just bought an old motorcycle and it's been teaching me to tune and maintain these kind of carbs. I may go through with this at some point. I'll keep you posted. chris
  16. that same thing happened to me. I had a hunk of crap come loose in the tank when I refueled and it blocked the line just before the filter. lost all power and had to coast onto the shoulder. try checking that out... chris
  17. http://www.v-performance.com/products.html has anybody seen this set up before/tried it? chris
  18. I hate to bring back dead threads but... I have an old 20v coupe quattro that I'd be willing to sell to the cause. look at 034motorsports website. don't remember if its .org .com or .net might give some ideas. let me know. chris
  19. so for realworld benifit they really don't offer anything. I guess they would be great on a show car though. doesn't sound like it's worth the trouble. thanks for the input guys. chris
  20. thats good to know. has anyone done it to a 240?
  21. has anyone thought about mounting the brakes just off the diff to reduce unsprung weight? I'm by no means ready to attempt something like that on my own project, but it does seem like a good topic to delve into. what would it take to make it work? would it really benifit performance? I've only seen it done on cobras and some truely bad ass old vettes. what are your thoughts? chris
  22. that sounds like what was going on with my car before I got the tank cleaned. check your fuel filter. if its dirty I'll bet thats your problem. something else to check is the rubber fuel line, if its cracked it could be creating those same issues. look for little splits around the clamps and if you have a clear filter look for tiny bubbles. as for the starting issue, I've had trouble with the plug on the column wiggling loose. don't know if any of these are going to help but it's cheaper to check them before you start replacing stuff. good luck, chris
  23. ...that is your hand in the first pic right? I figured that the title was a joke...is this work safe?
  24. I'm working on rebuilding an old rajay right now, I'll try to get some pics up soon. none right now.
