UN-Bummed Out!!!

Recommended Posts

Ok, gang, I'm back in business...just picked up the hotrod, took a test drive, have all the gears and I'm a happy camper!!! Kudo's to Richard Godley and his folks for busting their butts to get the car back to me...actually in 2.5 days!! For those kinda local folks who don't know, he is a national level Super Gas racer who has also been building racing transmissions for about 142 years or so. :o) Hopefully, he won't read this thread...:o) Anyway, gotta fix my passenger side door so it will close, figure out why I am idling so weird...(I think I know), figure out how to fix the front fiberglass that I crunched when I put it on the trailer, and will be good to go.

I REALLY want to try for the fastest drive-in, but at this point, I don't have anyone to follow me with the truck/trailer just in case. Momma may come up Sunday, but she was at the one last March and, for some reason, she thinks the Sat night bash is a guy thing...I got a very quick NO when I approached her about driving the truck/trailer up...go figger :o)

thats good news wayne! i got to drive mine around a little more today also... it is doing pretty good... only problem i seem to have is the automatic shifter is pretty hard to shift... may be because it is new, i dont know. its the b&m hammer shifter. i havent got to drive it enough to actually make it shift gears down the street etc because as you said i want someone to follow me in the truck also! lol. i hope my 700r4 TV cable is setup right... guess i'll see when i get to drive it and shift through the gears. im going to be like you were last year wayne if i DO get finished in time it will be saturday afternoon. lol. if not... i may haul the car just to get some tips etc on it from some of the guys that will be there. glad to hear you're back up and running!

Watch how you run the cable on those shifters. Slow turns are a must. I know you would think a cable would make a pretty good turn but on some shifters it just wont do it. I had to reroute my Quicksilver twice before I got it right. Doesnt hurt to load em up with graphite lube too while they're off. Just thought I'd share..:-)

I'm with ledphoot, Shannan...it shouldn't shift hard if you have it set up correctly with some w-i-d-e bends in the cable....speaking of cable...be VERY careful how you set up the TV system on the 700R4! The TV system is what runs the line pressure to your entire transmission...if it isn't right, you will fry it the first time you jump on it. The best way to do it is to set it up where you can push the adjustment button and push the slider all the way toward the rear of the car. Get in the car (of course you have already made sure that the carb opens all the way when you floor it) and step on the gas all the way to the floor a couple of times. You should have heard the slider click as it moved out toward the front of the car. The intent here is to make sure that the very second you step on the gas, the TV will move and give instantaneous line pressure. If you need to, give me a call.....
