a6t8vw
Finally started my 350 for the first time, kinda started right up actually. well had a small fire at first no biggie.. but ran, wouldnt rev past 2500 or so would BANG and POP out the exhaust and backfire thrugh the intake, then i advanced the dist. alot and it sorta ran good but was poping banging at higher id say 4k range.. cant figure if its ingnition or carb or both... so first i swaped the 4150 holly for the 4160 and i was running way lean i belive beacuse the headers were RED and GLOWING.. so i turned it off and will mess with it tommrow.. im going to put a edelbrock AVS carb on it tommrow to rule out that the holly carb has issues...also the starter bolts are too long or some ♥♥♥♥ and when i go to start it its grinding on the flywheel; meaning it moved...becase it was ok B4. so im going to swap the starter bolts first then get back to the tuning hopefully i can drive it tommrow night or so! also Gotta make it to msa on the 29th! crunch time andy

v80z
Congrats. Search the Forum for glowing red headers. Always great to hear of a new addition.
grumpyvette
after getting the ignition sorted out and timed correctly ,check for vacume leaks, carb adjustment, fuel pressure issues, and valve adjustment, those areas can easily cause the symtoms you list
Pyro
re-check the firing order. Glowing headers or exhaust manifolds is a sign of a rich mixture and retarded ignition timing.
Alf
re-check the firing order. Glowing headers or exhaust manifolds is a sign of a rich mixture and retarded ignition timing. Exactly my thoughts, your mixture is burning in the exhaust instead of the chamber.
280zwitha383
Get actual start bolts for the starter if you replace them. They have a shoulder on them to hold the starter in place. If you buy some at a hardware store you will have problems with the starter moving on you. Trust me.
a6t8vw
fixed the problems, bad carb and vacume leak on booster line. put on the trustworthy carter afb and it ran great! I have a couple new problems, 1. my converter is WHINING pretty loud or at least it sounds like its coming from the trans or converter im not sure... 2. trans fluid is leaking out of what seems to be where the kick down cable goes into trans. 3.stock raidiator and my two elect fans might not be enough cooling. 4. fuel pump block off plate is driping oil and i cant get my allen wrench down there to tighten up the socket head cap screws....not enough room! 5. wish i wouldnt have got the 2k rpm converter, stock would have been nicer for drivin around town. 6.I need to bump up the rev limiter from the 4500rpm its been set at. bounceing off it fairly easy. 7.I think i need to goto a dual-plane intake manifold with this cam boy the car sure feels fast! and turns alot of heads, ive been drivin around town a little and with the hood off till i get the pins mounted. Ill make a vid soon Muahah andy
