Zmanco
I've been enlarging the opening of the intake manifold. I'm noticing that there is no way to enlarge the intake opening to match the TB as I'll run out of material. Here's a picture - if you look inside you can see how much smaller the manifold's intake is compared to the TB. It's a little deceptive due to the distortion from the lense - I was only a few inches away. http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=14470&cat=500&ppuser=16153 Is this normal? I'm guessing it is, but would rather check before I install it.
Cody 82 ZXT
Yes, it's normal. You can't open up the intake as much as the throttle body opening without welding in new material.
mario_82_ZXT
Wierd... When I did this I got the sx TB gasket and traced it on to my manifold and grinded away. Don't remember this being a problem... Mario
Tony D
I agree, I have done dozens of these and NEVER had to 'weld in material'. What manifold? I use primarily P82's and N42's--with the occasional turbo manifold (forget the casting number on it). All have been close on the bottom, but nowhere near cutting through. nismopick
Apparently he's not using a spacer... or if he is, the spacer doesn't have a wide enough bore.
mario_82_ZXT
Originally I wasn't using a spacer either. But then I converted it to the ball linkage and used a spacer, but the initial grinding was made for a straight bolt on to the manifold. I made my own spacer as well, and it's as big as the tb bore. How big is this tb? This was on an 82 ZXT turbo intake manifold. Mario
Zmanco
Apparently he's not using a spacer... or if he is, the spacer doesn't have a wide enough bore.I have the Pallnet plexiglass spacer. The TB is 60 mm and the spacer is just a little larger.
