Guest catlidge
Could somebody give me some pointers on boosting the horsepower for my 82 280zx...not sure on all of my options or where to purchase parts. I would like to get up between 250 and 300 HP without going turbo. Also my plugs are fouling quickly, like 15 minutes, any ideas on what would cause this? I would appreciate any input and help. gjc5500
Cam, exhaust, intake, fuel system, ignition, standalone. that will meet your goal. and idk about the plugs
steveosupremeo
how about a displacement of 3.0 or 3.1 and lots of compression, if you wanna keep FI go with a custom intake or even some ITBs.

CantZme
250-300bhp n/a isn't as easy as many think from a l28e, but with some serious head work(valves, springs) and porting(port match intake manifold as well) paired with an aggressive cam + supporting mods such as i/h/e, ignition, fuel system and a standalone like Megasquirt you can expect anywhere from 200-250bhp(wishful thinking), but 300bhp is almost impossible without a stroker or high compression build. if money is an option, go turbo, but u could of learned all that from using the "search" button. COmputoman
I also have an 82' ZX. Not trying thread-jack, but what mods would you suggest doing first? You would need more spark, fuel and air to support the aggressive cam, correct? Also i was eyeing the cam over on black dragon, would anyone suggest something different? Thanks
randy 77zt
before i put the turbo engine in my 77 i gutted the cat,put new injectors and injector connectors on.rebuilt a distributor with a better advance curve.ran 2.5' exhaust behind the cat.car ran very well-out drag raced a 94 camaro z28 with auto trans.remember to start with the basics before buying aftermarkit parts.back in the day these cars were made the gasoline didnt have injector cleaner in it-so the chances of your car having injectors flowing 60% to 90% of total flow are good.a megasquirt system with new injectors,a mild cam and good exhaust would make these cars run well. This has been covered time and again. Search for anything related to L-6 N/A performance and you will be rewarded with pretty much everything you need to get started pulling your engine, but keep in mind, power cost not only your time in labor, but LOTS of money as well. Within this forum you will find the easiest and least expensive route to get you close to your goal. Also, keep HP in perspective. 250 N/A L-6 HP can be quite fun. 300 streetable L-6 HP will only come from some form of unnatural aspiration. Now its time to turn you loose with the search button… We’ll be here when you’ve exhausted that..
Guest catlidge
Boy I was hoping to get it all handed to me on a platter....dang it...but in all seriousness i plan on pulling my engine and doing a rebuild from the ground up along with the stock suspension...I have reviewed the crank, cam, pistons, valves, rocker arms..etc...I am not sure of the injectors or the and air mixtures...and in honesty not sure of the best products to get or where to get them. I will do the searches as you suggested BRAAP. Also i had that second question on their about the fouled plugs...any suggestions on a direction there....
