ATF in a non w/c T-5?

I was under the impression that only the World Class T-5 from '88+ V-8 applications, (i.e. Camaro, Firebird, and Mustang V-8), used ATF and that was because of the composite synchros? As far as I was aware of in all my research on the T-5 back in the late 90's, all other T-5 trannies, aka NON World Class as used in 4 cylinders and 6 cylidners, utilized regular standard synchros and as such used regular gear oil?

What I do know for a definite fact is that you do NOT want to use standard gear oil in a World Class T-5 becuase of the composite, (essentially paper), synchros. I 'm not sure what would result if you use ATF in a tranny that normally requires gear oil. Probably work just fine other than the synchros would behave differently?..

The image I posted is from an addendum to the FSM and it states that the T-5 used in the Turbos recommends ATF.

I just bought this car a month or so ago, and am in process of learning all of the details and info on an SBC-Z. The tranny has ATF fluid in it right now, but I wanted to make sure that it was supposed to.

I finally had G-force build me a T5 and yes, this one is a WC. I don't think a stock WC is any stronger than a non WC, but nobody has upgrade parts for a non WC. I just kept ripping the teeth off of third gear and the cluster gear with the stock stuff.

Damn....I hope I have that problem one day...lol

Yes, ATF in either non-wc or wc.

And there is no strength difference between the two versions. As long as it is a V8 model it is good.

I ran a bunch of 1/4 miles with my non-wc trans. The trick is to shift it slow and easy. Ran 6.9 at 110mph (1/8 miles) with it using slicks and n20!

I think my 2nd gear syncro must be worn, because it will grind if I try to shift fast from 1st to 2nd.

Ok, I have a non-wc of course because I have the stock L28ET tranny.

This link here says to use 75W gear oil

http://www.moderndriveline.com/Technical_Bits/t5_history.htm

Autozone didn't have any and the guy remarked "that's some really heavy oil"...

So instead I bought some mobile one synthetic 75W/90 hoping it would work.

It seems that I might have to return it because some guys here don't seem to recommend using synthetic in a diff and it might not work for the tranny either.

Would my current gear oil be better than ATF?
