tkach
Ok here it is my ezwiring 1975 280z wiring guide. It is currently incomplete and I still have a few parts to workout. They are 1) How to wire up reverse lights 2) Where to source the power for my tail lights (use third break light power?) 3) What powers all my gauge's? this issue stems from the fact that according to my diagram i have to wires running into the light bulbs within the gauge's, a green white and a red blue. However the ez only shows 1 wire for this light . Thinking the the red blue runs threw my dash dimmer and alters the current flow to dim my lights? and how to hook up my dash dimmer? 4)What circuit I want to use to power my ignition box (msd unit). anyway this is what I have worked out thus far. It shows what color the wires are and what they do and how to connect them to your Ez harness . I hope it serves as a good starting point for others. I know that others have broken down other sections of their Z harness and how it mates to the EZ please post and help out! **note connections are as follows describes the original wire color first then the EZ harness color after Rear Section Left Side Right Side Lamp Wire Color Action Black Yellow Stop Red Black Reverse Green White Tail Green Red Turn Black Ground Connections are as follows Green White Brown Green Red Yellow Red Black Black Yellow Stop switch Right Side Right Side Lamp Wire Color Action Black Yellow Stop Red Black Reverse Green White Tail Green Black Turn Black Ground Connections are as follows Green White Brown Green Black Green Red Black Black Yellow Stop switch ***Note Stop Switch connects to fuse panel License Plate Wire Color Action Green White power Connections are as follows Green White Brown To Lower Chassis Wire Color Action Yellow To Fuel Gauge Yellow Blue To fuel warning lamp Green Blue Fuel Pump Power Connections are as follows Yellow Pink Green blue Dome Light Wire Color Action Red White Into Drivers Seat Switch To Assorted Seat Switch To fuse Box to ignition interlock Black Red Door Switch Right Hand to C-1 Black Ground Connections are as follows Red White White Brown to door jam switches Black Ground Dash Dash General Wire Color Action Red blue To control Panel illumination Lamp Runs to Radio and hazard Switch Green White To Light wiper washer combo switch Runs also to glove box lamp Front Section of Z to T/S park lamps Black Ground Connections are as follows Red blue Green White Brown Amp Meter See Notes in book for more Install information Wire Color Action Green To Speedo White To Shunt Split into two sections Fusible Link to starter Terminal with B wire From Battery Pos Voltage Regulator Connections are as follows White- Route the 10 gauge solenoid pwr = red wire from the fuse panel to the amp meter and then from the other post of the amp meter out to your pos bat source. dskubitz
I don't have the 280z diagram, but this is for a 240z... 1. Backup + backup power to reverse switch on trans 2. heavy red "lights power" to combo switch blue/green were 3. there is a wire called "guage" that is the power for the guages, not the guage lights. use park or tail wire for guage lights. one wire is ground and one power. you can make your own ground. the power wire goes to a reostat, then from the reostat to the gauge lights. 4. I dont have mine wired to msd, but you will need to have a switched ign on wire attached + coil and distributor wire (I think)
280Z-75
Hey Tkach attached is a pdf of the 75's wiring diagram. Hope it helps you out, i'm doing an 81 turbo setup in mine, and this diagram saved me big time! If you print it out, it's about 4 pages. I printed it out and taped it together to see how everything was routed. 75_schematic_diagram.pdf
tkach
280Z-75 thanks i have been workin off that diagram tho. On a side note this morning when i got home from work i figured id strip some more of the wire out of the Z, I didn't pay attention and sliced my pinky and ring finger open! so after a number of stitch's 6 in the pinky 4 in the ring finger to be exact i figure i better get a move on this harness 'cuse the car is starting to bite back! Bob_H
Your timing is perfect on this post - I'll be working on my 240 this weekend. I stripped everything out of my Z, and there is no dash gauges to speak of - so mine will be slightly different. however, the rear lights info is great - thanks! If I have any feedback/updates, I'll post them. -Bob
tkach
Bob_H Great looking car! let us know how the wiring goes! Hopefully Sparky will let me post his EZwiring Writeup about the ignition switch and various other control switches!
Bob_H
Thanks. I hope Sparky lets you post them - that way those of us using the EZwiring,(which is one of the cheapest/most complete), can benefit! -Bob
Sparky
Since my notes are a bit cryptic I wanted to draw out an actuall diagram so that everyone can understand it, making it as EZ as possible...har har. demand is high though so here they are! "Starting with the left switch (turn signal & brights) Switch Harness Green ---> Purple 25 turn flasher Green/blk ----> Green 26 Horn switch White/Red ----> connect to 3 wires: Blue: 21 R rear turn 16 R signal ind. 17 R front turn White/Blk -----> Connect to 3 wires: Blue 14 Left signal indicator light blue 15 Left front signal yellow 20 Left rear signal Red/white -----> connect to 2 wires: Green 28 Left high beam Green 73 high beam indicator Red/Yellow -----> Light brown 24 Left low beam ****The previous ground goes to the White/Red of the head light control. Head light control switch: Green/white ---------> connect to 2 wires brown 48 Left front park ? ? Left rear park Green/Blue --------> Red 33 Switch power *** note the red 33 splits into red and black, Connect black side to Green/Blue Red ---------> Red 01 headlight power Ignition Switch Blue/Red ---------> Peach 31 Ignition switch acc Brown 29 Ignition Switch Black/blue ---------> Purple 32 Ignition switch start Black/White ---------> Pink 30 Ignition switch coil White/Red --------> 33 red ** this connects to the red side of the above note. So thats its, It should be a good start, just be sure to keep your multimeter out and check continuity in the switch as you wire things in. It can be a bit intimidating, but its really EZ...and if you do wire something wrong, the fuses will most likely blow when you connect the battery!
