17x9 WHEEL SPECS.

Recommended Posts

Anyone out there using 17x9 wheels on a 240?

Here's my situation. I plan on usind ground control coil-overs with sectioned struts. I don't plan on having the car extremely low maybe just 2-2.5" (from sectioning).

What I'm looking for: OFFSET requirements for this application & BACKSPACE for this application.

The standard 4x4.5 BOLT PATTERN will remain.

Hopefully someone out there is already running this same setup on a 240.I plan on special ordering custom wheels and I won't be able to return them if the spec's are off!

Thanks! :D

Oh yeah, I 'm hoping to be able to have the same spec's for all four corners to make rotation a whole lot easier.THX.

my suggestion for your 17"x9" wheel setup

would be to measure your backspace distance,

for instance I have datsun 280z with

17"x8" up front and for the rear i have 17"x11

I have 0 degrees on the 17"x8 wheel which means

that it is 4"outer and a 4" backspace,for the

rear I have 6" on the outer lip and a 5"

backspace,and this a 4 lug setup that I have.

these wheels where custom made by IMAGE WHEELS

OVERSEAS IN ENGLAND,you must first figure out

what type of suspension setup you will be using

And what type of brake caliper you will be using

i have large brake rotors up front and the rear

setup has the 91 300zx dual piston calipers

with the 91 300zx rotors on the rear, and this is

Also A 4 lug setup.what ever wheel setup that you

Go with, you must make sure that you have wheel

clearance for the particular brake caliper that

you are using,or else your going to have some

problems with clearance of backspace of the wheel.

I hope this gives you an ideal about the different

wheel combinations.oz

CHeck out this info:

http://mywebpages.comcast.net/pparaska/wheelstires.htm

Just take into account the thickness of your rotor hat or drum at the mating surface, subtract it from 1/2" and add that number to the 149mm backspacing of my wheels to find the backspacing needed to make 17x9s fit. Note that 8" coilovers are needed if you section the strut 1.5", but 10" might just fit if you don't section.

Thanks for the info, guys. My biggest problem right now is that I don't have all the parts that I need to do the susp. mods.

I have measured my current stock setup with stock size wheels and tires but I want to be sure that will still apply once I modify the susp.

Maybe this will work....?

'72 240z

ground control coil overs ( what spring ratio?)

sectioned strut housings w/

tokico 5-way struts (stock fronts in rear / mr2 in front)

17x9 in. wheels allfour corners (4x4.5 bolt / 3 in. backspace / 0 zero offset )

maybe someone out there is running this setup.

I'm just wondering if it will work.

I've been getting home too late so I'm not sure what specs the wheel manufact. may suggest.

Max backspacing with standard 10" coilovers is

going to be about 5" or so. With a 17x9 your would

have 4" sticking out past the surface + the tire

bulge. I think 17x8 with 5" bs and some 245's is

about max without flairing.
