RUSSJZ-ZED
The front pan will not work in a J series into a 240/260/280Z,(unless your names Mandrake) there is a mid pan and a rear pan, what cars did the mid and rear pans come out on?I'm not even sure which one of these I have, anyone know? I suspect it's a mid, but dont know what it was from, anyone have a pic of the last of the set? I have been told the mid one is the hardest one to find. Front sump/pan on 2J tt on left. my ??? on right.
mario_82_ZXT
There's a front and a mid sump, but I guess it is far enough back that some people call it a rear sump. I believe the 1JZ supras came with the rear sump. Mario
oatmilk
"I'm not even sure which one of these I have, anyone know?" From my in person viewing experience, all MKIV Supras, SC300's with M/T and 1JZ's that came out of a MK3 Supra (japan only) all came with mid-sump(aka rear-sump) pans. All of the Aristos 2jz's that i have seen come with front sump pans. I still have my front sumps stuff. So my guess is that your pan came from one of the above. I'm not sure on Cressida's. I haven't researched them much. I thought they were front sump as well. Us USA guys have it easy as all we have to do is order all of the parts for a MKIV Supra oil pan from our local dealer: upper pan(cast piece) lower pan(stamped steel piece that actually holds the oil oil splash plate/cover oil pick-up tube of Toyota FIPG 1207B gasket maker silicone(black silicone) Replace all the parts above when you remove the like parts from your front sump 2jzgte and your ready to go. This has been my experience to date. Hope that helps.
RUSSJZ-ZED
So the mid pan and rear pan are one and the same? Explains why I have only come across the two types. (Cressidas -late '80s early '90s in this Country were nearly all 7M non turbo, the guys converting to 1J/2J need the front pan/sump because of position of crossmember, The Mid/rear ones are 2 a penny, front pans are rocking horse sh1t , I think only from Aristo and Chaser)
theianmonster
Supra - Rear sump. Chaser - Front sump.
Careless
If you know the part number for either pan, toyota usa/japan will ship it to whatever dealership you order it at.
RUSSJZ-ZED
I think Toyota might work out a touch too expensive if you are stuck with the wrong pan, might be a bit kinder to the wallet used. Parts needed to swap-All straight bolt on,All different. Oil pan Alloy skirt baffle plates Dip stick tube dip stick
theianmonster
I got a price for about $125 for a pan from Toyota. The 2JZ pan will fit a 1JZ, its the same block, just the 2JZ block is taller.

Oil pan Alloy skirt baffle plates Dip stick tube dip stick you won't end up with the wrong pan if you get the right part numbers for what you need. plain and simple. I would just go new on everything at the bottom of the engine, just to be extra safe. oil pans are re-usable and that's fine. But i would get a new sump pickup for sure
RUSSJZ-ZED
Woops! I stupidly left this "useful" little part off the list. Could work out expensive if left out:icon_frow. ( I suspect mnstr-techica's $125 price from Toyota is only for the tin pan-I know that Toyota Australia would not sell you the time of day for that amount)
