my setup, strongly recommended

At least on the first gen, the springs were single rate, linear. At least according to the Factory service manual.

Well if they are constant rate, and they may be, my memory may have ambushed me, then I'm wrong and Bob H. is right... However, the principal is still valid excepting the rate issue... I still say that there will be an issue with the strut NOT performing optimally and eventually failing prematurely due to the configuration... But I could be wrong... Ultimately David will have to decide if the setup works well once he gets it to the track!

Remember, David does get to track events in SoCal. And it does work very well for him. I never conteded that, just his claim of why it was better/worked in such a way.

Personally, (as it has been said by most of us), the setup is great and I'm sure works quite well. That is what really matters.

David, thanks for igniting this firestorm! And thanks for recommending a good setup for the ZX,(which few people have experience setting up) smile.gif

Hmmmmm.... Well, I don't know if the factory springs are progressive or not. If they are, the rate would increase as they are compressed. I would guess they are linear, because all the progressive's I saw in my circle tracking days were wound a lot tighter on one end than the other. I think all the factory springs I have seen have the coils equally spaced, but I'm really not sure.

Like Bob, I'd like to thank David for starting all this. David's found something that he's happy with on his car, regardless of the theories and conventions involved, and I know I've learned from reading everyone else's thoughts.

Isn't that what we're all here for?

My car handles well enough for my daily driving, and some open track time. What i have found, is a very cheap setup when compared to the more expensive brands. I have had SPAX suspension before i had KYB's. The SPAX was way to hard for daily driving, and i cant imagine what would happen on the track if i had not put weight in the hatch area. I removed the SPAX, sold them, and bought KYB's. I then used the extra money i had leftover to buy my fiancee something really nice and take her out to dinner. Now, if you have a ZX, and want to impress your female companion, follow my setup. Afterall, thats the main reason i posted my thoughts.

Also, i AM "Spirited Driving"!

David,

This is unrelated to this thread. It concerns your signature picture. Esp. in a thread like this, where you have posted 10+ times, it takes forever to download. Think about it, 11 some odd pictures = 250k+ of download just for your sig!

When I am not on dial-up, it is not an issue, but when was the last time you tried to download one meg at 26k! It takes forever.

Could you please cut down the size of your sig picture to at least 1/4 or less of its current size? I have asked the same of Dan,(badkarmacreepn), as his is the same size.
