EvilC
Like the title says, I just bought a 1969 510 Wagon with 53k miles on it. 1 owner car that was sitting outside on a driveway for 15 years before the body work was started in it a year ago. The guy I bought it from started to do the work but has way too many projects, 30+ to be exact. Car has been located in Springfiels, Mass its whole life. I got the orginal title, issued 2/23/70 very cool to have with the car. Along with the original keys. What kind of shape is it in? It does need a drivers side floor, new interior (sun killed it), and bunch of other things. The motor does run and I am told it has a fresh rebuild no 0 miles on it. Automatic car. All in all it is a very solid car for the northeast and I was very excited to buy it....price was $1000 including a bunch of all goodies I will hold out until I get pics (none are car parts but vintage items!) Those are NOS 70 front fenders that he started to get ready for paint. I will try and find the 69 fenders for it. Why did I buy it? Several reasons, main reason is...... my father and uncle had plenty of 510's back in the days and neither has one now. I would like to give this car to my uncle for him and his son to work on it as a father/son project. Also if you look at the first pic below, that is me around 4 or 5 sitting on my uncle's dime. He does have a old Corolla he is working on right now, so he may just have me keep the wagon. Either way it is in the family! What are the plans for it? None, I have no idea where this car is going to go. Stock? Hybrid? DD? Just wanna get some paint on it and get it on the road for now....so I guess that is a plan Me 20 yrs ago! Front view of the "new" wagon Engine Bay Side View I should be picking it up in a few weeks, I have to make room for it first. I still have the zxt donor to strip and the 84 maxima to get out of the garage! Plus this gives the seller sometime to gather everything for the car...seats, front bumper and such. jbk240z
You have got to Hybrid the wagon of course! Just imagine for a moment, an early 70's Cadillac 500 c.i. engine with transaxle mounted in the rear of the wagon. It has been done in the rear of a VW bug, so it should fit in a 510. Anyway, nice project you have there. Good luck.
EvilC
Thanks, just can't wait to get it home. Still have to finish my Z tho, lol.
Sparky
You know, I've looking for a 2 door 510 project car for a while now but after seeing just how good the wagons can look, I might just widen my search to include them. Congrats, seems like you got a good deal! Four bangers seem like the way to go in 510s, maybe a turbo'd KA?
EvilC
Sparky, that is my next 510 buy a 2 door. I really want one with a SR20DET in it. I think the wagons are pretty cool also and I am just brainstorming now for this one. Where are you located?
mikeatrpi
Very nice, Clive! I spy a rear spoiler and side dump exhaust on that baby picture... your first taste of a hot rod? "The beginning of the end"???
EvilC
Very nice, Clive! I spy a rear spoiler and side dump exhaust on that baby picture... your first taste of a hot rod? "The beginning of the end"??? Yes it is, between my dad and uncle....510's were always around. Funny thing is I only remember the mini cooper my dad had and a dodge colt! hahaha
EvilC
I was able to pick it up last weekend and now it is sitting indoors. 4 hour trip back and forth which went with no problems. I love the color! Yes it is going back in that color. Next is a 2 door dime....lol I will start to collect parts for this car and gather more info on the dimes. They are all new to me but I love learniing about the cars we drive. Clive
qwik240z
Glad you got it home safely Clive. Looks pretty straight. We need more pics. I like the rear engine Cadi swap mentioned in this thread. That would be cool. Then you would have the power to use the wagon as a tow vehicle for your Race car's trailer.
EvilC
Here is the Z I have been working on for the past 2 years Working on meaning: trying to get this guy to sell it to me. It has been sitting for almost 20 years! Only 2 years outside. I believe he is going to let it go to me next month or so....I will def keep everyone updated. 75 Fairlady Z- Plans for this when I get it is: L28et, big brakes, zg's and a bunch more ideas in my head. Hope this will be a nice Bday present to myself! lol Dave you are right, the wagon needs more pics. I have it "stored" now in garage owned by a older woman who does not want a bunch of traffic in her yard. Perfect place for the 510 since I have no plans on starting it this summer. This wagon will remain stock or atleast a 2000 motor. Nice DD if need be. The 510 coupe will be the hot rod dime. Plan on posting about yours? Not perfect but very straight and original. Will post more once I have it home. It is on it's way.
