firm Posted March 4, 2008 Share Posted March 4, 2008 I didn't read all the replies or anything, but here is my personal opinion.. The beginning is good.. I like the simplicity of your voice and the guitar combined, that really sounds good. The vocals still could have been a bit louder, but all in all it was good. When the drums kicked in the guitar riff wasn't all that great. It was repetitive and kind of droned on. The great thing about a simple intro to a song is how great a powerful guitar riff sounds after it. I'm assuming that you are recording this all at once since there were small imperfections in the guitar at points, nothing too bad just enough to notice. I would suggest recording everything seperately and then layering it over. That way you could use your drum set and get a more natural feel in the song, not to mention you could add a more powerful guitar riff to back up the chorus. The tone of the guitar is great, it makes me want to get mine down off the wall and just jam out for a little while. Ovation FTW on that note. As for the vocals in the rest of the song, you definitely need to put some backbone behind your voice. To be able to pull that whisper-vocals style off you have to be pretty damn talented, so I would just use it for the intro and move to the more powerful guitar/vocals after that. Remember that your voice is what people hear the most, and if the lyrics are passionate then the voice should be too or the people listening are not going to relate. All in all you have a good starting point for a good song.. Take what you have and chop it up/build around it. The song does stay in one "mode" for too long and that makes it seem as if it is just droning on, but you have more than enough to just add a little oomph in certain sections and you'd be good to go. One word.. Chorus. Split the verse in half and add a chorus, then close with that same chorus. Just that little addition would make the song much better IMO.
