rudypoochris
I'm at 194,500 miles on my 1992 4.0L 5-Speed 4x4 Explorer - runs great. Apparently the engines go for 300k+ at times.
BillZ260
Good to hear! I have a 94 sport with "JUST" 146K You guy's have any trans problems? Mine is slipping to get into first only when cold and once it's in the first time, she shifts just fine the rest of the drive. Loving it. rudypoochris
I hear the transmissions are the weak points on these cars. Especially the auto. I know 3rd gear gets a little loose on the 5-speeds, but this rebuilt 5-speed runs just fine (the original 5-speed I believe was abused). Trevor
I'm on my 2nd 5-speed transmission as well. It's a rebuild. I can attest the first was abused - teaching my daughter to drive a stick shift. But that was at 175,000.
Mr.INSANE
174,000 On my 93 Ford F350 Turbo Diesel 32,000 or something like that on motor and trans
OlderThanMe
We have had a 96 Explorer 2X4 4.0 that was bought new. 175k miles on the Exploder but on the second tranny. Getting an auto transmission flush at Ford($75) really helps with the first gear slip. The one thing is that it has the COLDEST air conditioning. I measured 45 degree air coming out of the vent on a 90 degree day.
rudypoochris
Lol. Ironically the A/C on my 92' has been the only thing to consistently fail. I think maybe the dealer that we take it to doesn't know how to do it properly. Also the lumbar supports usually leak, which is a bummer. Haha regardless I'm sure Ill get alot of miles out of this truck. I love how everything works Before this truck i drove a 79 Chevy C10 and nothing worked, No windshield wipers A/C heater etc etc and the door window wouldnt go up all the way. after driving that for a year its nice to have A/C
