timing curve rb26 help

Good day

I require some help (put in your own joke here)

I was tuning today and noticed my timing was not varying. The reason for this is the “expert†tuner I had taken my car to has messed up the timing curves.

The baseline curve seems fine – ramps up from 14°at idle to 30° at 4000 rpm and then stays flat.

However my MAP curve (which adds or subtracts timing from the base line) is all positive – and by a lot! At 20lbs boost I would have been running 38° total advance. I can’t believe that is correct.

What has saved me is upon building the new engine I had set the max advance to 26°.

Does anyone here have a curve that I could start with – timing vs. boost levels?

240ztt sent me one about 2 years ago – but I can’t find it and it is not posted.

Any help appreciated.

Here ya go. This was pretty rough start. it made 320 to the wheels on the stock turbos and stock boost. once we got it to the dyno and cleaned it up some we made 352.

for those that may come across this later

the first column is rpm

second column of numbers is base timing at that rpm

the third column is man pressure

and 4th column is the amount of timing that is pulled or retarded at that specific pressure.

I had a friend ask me a question about my map that reminded me about something.

That map was built in japan using hi oct pump gas. Some say their gas is in the 95-98 oct range. so if the timeing looks a little aggressive well that is why

  • 2 weeks later...

Well I was happy with the timing curve and did some more tuning today. Finally increased the boost. Adjusted from 9lbs (lowest boost I can have with the upgraded springs in the wastegates) to 20lbs. Now it hauls hard.... hunting for traction in 3rd with the RA1 245/45/16s. No indication of detonation so i am sure i could increase the boost some more but with the rubber i have there would be little point. will try to get to a dyno soon and post some numbers.

Stony I will post the timing curve on here tomorrow.
