WG383
Hello Has anyone ever tried to run the RB26DETT AWD trans With the front drive shaft disabled or removed in a RWD application? I have read different ways to disable the front wheel Drive when installed in the GTR skyline’s. so the trans And ecu must allow for this? But has anyone ever done this or better yet has anyone ever done this in a s30 RB26DETT swap?
Evan Purple240zt
That transmission weighs about a billion pounds. If you already have the 26 bellhousing pull it and use a z32 trans.
WG383
yea, you are right, about 1.5 billion pounds. but would it work? with the z32 trans is the shifter an issue? i never see this trans with a shifter?
Z24O
there are several guys over here who have cut the transfer case off the 4wd gtr transmission and plated up the alloy casing not pretty but functional trick is to find a gtr transmission that hasn't been abused
WG383
would anyone have a picture of the transfer case being reomved and with the plate on it? thanks
Evan Purple240zt
In the united states it makes absolutely no sense to mod an RB26dett transmission to fit due to lack of availability. If you happen to need another trans for some reason they are not all that easy to find. I have a z32 trans in my car, but mines an S14. Do what you want, but when making your decision remember that your creating a setup based on a transmission that you can't call a salvage yard for. Good luck! Evan BTW, search google for the images. Its been along time since I saw those pictures.
WG383
i would be ok with the z32 trans, just need something that will work. i assume you used the shifter from the z32? i cannot find a z32 trans with the shifter for some reason. from what i have seen this shifter does not mount in the pod/opening/box where i would think a shifter would go? it has some kind of linkage that exits out the rear of the shifter mounting pod/box with a cover/plate on the opening (top) of box? am i wrong on this? sorry, still working on my learning curve for these things...... i have been waiting for 2 month for a supplier to get me a RB25 trans from canada but he has not come across one as of yet? but either trans would work i guess. thanks

Thats what I have. Evan

Evan Or a 2wd pathfinder vg30e/vg33e tranny, or 2wd pickup vg30e/vg33e tranny. They are all the same.
stony
I have a CRS GM automatic adapter for an rb26. a stock rb26 boosting 15 PSI and say a 3000 stall would absolutely kick ass on the street.
usmcgetsome
no hold on gents. There are many rb26 trannys collecting dust at jdm engine shippers warehouses and also the people who buy rb26dett clips and so on. They simply collect dust because no one wants to use them. people use the rb25det tranny as it is an easier way to assemble the swap quicker without more modifications. Just like the oil pan issue. Ask anyone off this forum thats done an rb26 swap. They have the trannys in the garage. lol.

I yanked the bellhousing and sold the rest of it cheap, they can use it for a boat anchor for all I care! lol Evan
fast-datsun
We have the rb/300 trans conversion shifter and plates and crossmembers for the trans almost ready to sell.......
mtnickel
I've found Bell housings for as cheap as about $100 shipped. But more typically $130-150 will get the job done. Then a newish JDM z32 trans is the best bet in my opinion. If you want to know where to get a bell housing...let me know, i can connect you with people...these specifically are in canada, but i'm sure they will ship to US.
