Jaspendlove
I have been taking out my front rotors and hub to replace my rotors. I have been restoring the car and i know that it say for about a year in the backyard of someones house. Anyway, for some reason i cant get the hub separated from the rotor. i have removed the 4 bolts on the back, tried wd40, light wrench, and a degreaser, screw driver, etc. I am going to get some CLR and try and soak them in it. I think i have everything removed in order to separate them I tried searching and couldn't find anything. If i missed it, please direct me in the right direction. Any help would be great. thanks
kiwi303
by 4 bolts, you mean bolts that attach the hub to the rotors or the wheel studs themselves? you'll probably need to remove the wheel studs before the rotor will separate from the hub, that's what had to happen with my hilux rotors. Jaspendlove
the hub to the rotor. i have the rotor off, just cant get the 2 separated. i cant remove the wheel studs. the rotor needs to be removed before the studs can come out. here is somewhat of a picture. Lukaniuk
huh? A little brute force and ignorance - Don't force it, just use a bigger hammer.
Trevor
Big ....Hammer I recommend 2 pieces of 2x4 lumber against the outer face of the rotor on either side of the hub. Apply force to the center of the hub and press it down & out.
kiwi303
Brute Force Helps. I prefer B F & I myself, Brute Force & Ignorance. the hub should protrude out the back of the rotor a bit. put that on a block of wood and lay another block of wood on the rotor, then whack it sharply with a hand sledge. rotate the rotor about 120 degrees and repeat the bashing, keep doing that until your arm hurts or the rotor comes off. the wood keeps the hub or rotors from being damaged. Lukaniuk
The first time I took a rotor off of the hub I ended up messing up the threads on the hub b/c I hammered on the bolts which were half taken out. Don't do that. Had to get a hub off of a parts car in the end. Sometimes you have to get it started by forcing a wedge between the hub and the rotor. Jaspendlove
i tried some small stuff like a screw driver. i need to try something bigger.
kiwi303
for a wedge, possibly grab a small tomahawk from the wood pile and de-temper that? (chuck it in the fire and leave in the ashes as the fire goes out..

Seems like a lot of work and you still don't have the right tool. http://www.canadiantire.ca/include/products/inc_product_zoom_display.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441899719&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=282574488463487&bmUID=1223171004592 Use one like the big ones in the middle

Jaspendlove
well here is the verdict. I used the B.F.H and it would not budge. So I thought that i would run down to the mechanic shop of a friend and found out that they had a press. This press exerts up to 60,000 of pressure. Well that did it. I heard 2 pops before it came off. what a pain. Well here are pics of it now. I got all the rust off and painted it.
COmputoman
I used the circle end a wrench in the 4 slots around the (open) meeting points of the rotor and the hub. Pry at one point, then move to the point directly across in an x pattern. By the way NICE looking paint job on those hubs. What brand did you use? Ben Ps cute dog
