David K
Hey guys, What does this look like to you?
jnjdragracing
A detroit or gmc 6-71 blower. I would call up bds or littlefield and send them the pictures to get a more info on it. John
Tony D
Got Dimensions? I thought the 6-71's had 3 sections in it, a 4-71 might be the one you have. A 3-71 and 2-71 do not have the bridge section with sub-webbing in them. Length will tell you which it is. With no frame of reference it's hard to make a definate call. Rotor Diameter would distinguish it between the 71 and the 53 series. Actually, a 3 or 4-53 blower would work pretty nicely on our L-Engines... David K
Ill take some measurements when i get home later today. The 6-71's i find on the net and ebay have closed covers on the rear. Could this one have been part of a dual motor setup?
David K
Check this out http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/791735-need-help-identifying-a-supercharger.html#post6754620
Tony D
It's beeeeeeen a while, but the Detroits were set up for clockwise, or counterclockwise configuration. The blower could be on either side depending on configuration of the package. That means the blower would be set up using a 'universal' drive package. It looks symmetrical, either direction of mounting... The diesel blowers are not the same as what you get in aftermarket kits. You can use them, but there are modifications you have to do, and several conversions change the end casings...
David K
there are modifications you have to do, and several conversions change the end casings... So far ive learned about changing the ends so one is closed to the firewall, and one has a snout, sawing the diesel mounting tabs off, and buying a whole bunch of parts so itll bolt all together on an engine. I just want to sell the thing. I have no use for it. Its been in my garage for years and years, and looks to have been rebuilt.
Tony D
Same as my buddy Drew. He snagged I don't know how many 3-53 Detroit Blowers with all these grand plans on using them on this project or that. That was in 1985... They still sit in their boxes, oiled and fresh. Likely they will never be used. At least you're being realistic! LOL E-Bay is your friend!
