maybemark
I guess I misunderstood the forum. I was under the impression I could upgrade my 82 280zx front brakes. I bought 300zx rotors, bought 86 toyota 4runner calipers, and pbr pads. I tried to put it all together, realizing, this isn't going to work. I read a little closer on the posts on the forum, I guess this upgrade is for the z-cars only, not the zx's If someone knows something that I possibly missed, please let me know. Otherwise, I have all this upgrade up for sale
Marc280
Yeah I'm pretty sure you will find that setup only works for the Z's and not ZX's as you say. I remeber reading in some other posts a while ago exactly why it doesn't work, but I think it is the mounting points for the caliper on the ZX are different so it won't fit. I think you'll find that you can still use the discs, but you'll have to find a different caliper or make a bracket to adapt to the 4runner caliper. nofunchris
If it's for sale I might be interested. Are they the calipers stamped s12+8 or the s12w? Rotors for sale aswell?
maybemark
the calipers are stamped S12+8, I started removing the pistons, thinking I would make a total rebuild out of them. Yes, the rotors are for sale also, I did list them on the parts for sale in hybrid z. I'm not even looking to get even. My mistake would be your gain on the purchase thanks Mark
81280zxtc
Hi, There is an front brake upgrade kit available for the zx. I just installed one to replace a 15+ year old Wilwood set up on my 81 ZXT. jskinnovations.com The person to speak with is Juan. He supplies a kit with the caliper brackets, hub / hat adapters and hardware. He gives you the part numbers to the Wilwood components to order, and you are set. The installation was a little confusing at first, but once you figure it out, it's pretty straight forward. Anytime I had a problem, I called Juan and he was very helpful. If you want to discuss, call me 917-682-2000. Rob
maybemark
Rob Thanks for letting me know. This whole thing started on me misunderstanding the discussion of uprades of brakes. I thought they were refering to the zx too, when i bought all my calipers, and the rotors. Mark
PhilbertZ
dang! I had just recently read about the 4 piston toyota direct bolt on swap in another Z forum and wondered if the S130 cars were "exempt" from this cool cheap mod....I guess they are (sniff)
nismopick
^^^ The only major issue with this upgrade on the S130, is that the front of the Toyota caliper hits the back of the wheel (rim) due to shorter spindles & thinner rotors than the S30. With some Modern Motorsports (or similar) adapters, this upgrade works.
