Phantom
Brought Zack home for his last wekend in the garage for a while. The 3.7 LSD is installed and working realy well. Jerry over at All Z CAr Specialist in Fort Worth did an excellent job. He used David Linfoots modified parts to allow me to keep the finned cover - it looks really cool -and also put in some new bushings and a new front mount. No more "clunk" in the back. Not quite as quick now as with the 3.9 but that will change a lot when the LS-1 goes in. Monday evening the big transition starts. Wife is already going through "transportation withdrawal" as I've been using her car to get to work. I've started taking photos and twisted the arm of one of my younger sons friends who is a true computer geek - and proud of it - to build me a web site I can put them on. More on this later. Again - thanks for all the information y'all have been so free with. I hope I can return the favor as this project progresses.
Mike C
Cool. Your a dog though! I can't find an LSD anywhere, at least not for less than about $700. I'm now on the back order list at Reider Racing for when and IF they ever get them in. April they said May, May they said June, June they said NEXT month. HA! At least for my $550 the parts are spankin' new. Looking forward to seeing your web site, keep us updated!
Guest Anonymous
Would a 1983 ZX Turbo differential be a LSD??? 3.90,,,4.11 or 3.54. It has the CV jounts and is an R 200 without finned cover. Ocbaar and I looked at a non-running 1973 Datsun that was for sale, with this reportedly turbo diff installed but we did not jack it up to do the wheel turn test. Phantom
Tomahowk Z: I'm not positive but I believe all the turbo ZX's had LSD's. I'm not certain of the ratio either but most likely in the 3.54 range. Someone here or on zcar.com should know for sure. Mike C: If your source doesn't come through for you call Jerry at All Z Car Specialist. (817) 483-0383 He seems to always be able to come up with a good used whateever I need. Guest JAMIE T
The '87-'89 300zx Turbo's are the only cars to come with R200 LSD's.
Dp351zcar
I got a 83 turbo rear thinking that it was a LSD just to find out that it was a open diff. It has a 3.54 gear ratio which I think is a plus for more speed. The only Z's that had LSDs were 87 and newer. 87-89 were the only bolt in's, This does not include the 88? Spl Edition. Motorsports Auto had the nissan comp clutch type for 700, nissan wanted 800 for it and it's the same diff. It comes in a nissan box with a instruction sheet in Japanese. Phantom
Mine is out of a 87-89 300ZX turbo. It is used and cost me $400. I understand the used units are hard to come by. I have developed a real confidence in used Nissan parts over the past 10 years. I haven't been burned yet.
Guest zfan
Hey Phantom, did you by chance score the lsd rear from Jerry out at All Z. He's located in Ft.Worth/Kennendale. Very good guy, fair and honest! Mike
Phantom
ZFAN: I sure did! I got to him just before the national convention in San Antonio. He was going to take it down there to sell. I've known Jerry for about 18 years now and live about two miles from his house and from his shop. I concur - he's the greatest. Going through the major boo-hoos this evening. Dropped my car off to start the engine swap and I'm already in withdrawals. Plan as of now is to have the old drivetrain out and the mounts for the new one set by the 20th of this month so I can get it painted. That means the really fun stuff will start in August. BAlford
Tell me more about this LSD rear end. I am about to swap out the rear end in my 1982 Z. http://www.waskomtexas.com/zcar/ You don't need a password, just click "OK'. My rear end is making a lot of noise. What is the ratio of the LSD and will it swwap out with the one that I have in the car? If so how much modifications?
Phantom
87-89 turbo 300ZX's had limited slip R200 differentials (posi-tracks) with a ratio of 3.7:1. Be careful of the '88 versions though. There was a special edition that year that used an oddball unit that doesn't have a good reputation. The nice thing about the R200's is they are very interchangeable with the older Z's. They are good for 500+HP. The later model differentials are R230's. They are capable of more HP but require significantly more work to install. randy 77zt
i have an 87 r200 lsd in my 77 but i just swapped the cover and pinion flange and bolted it in.i put ford synthetic axle oil in it and it chattered on sharp turns.so i put the ford friction modifier in it and it works perfect now-hooks up both wheels and no chatter.got mine from local pick&pull for $65. BAlford
I know where there are 2 or 3 300ZX's. I will check on the year to see if they had the rear end that you are looking for. I am looking for a ratio around 3.2 to 1. Is there such an animal. I would be interested in new gears.
Phantom
Balford: Talk to Lone Star 1. He has a low ratio R200 LSD in his car. I think around 3.23:1. He may be able to give you a lead.

Bradford, since you have a 82Z all you have to do is swap your yoke (the part where driveshaft attaches to on your rear diff). The finned diff. cover may fit if not just use put your diff. on the LSD R200. Here's mine... Who ever is interested I got my Brace from Dave (V8-240Z@juno.com). He sells them for $90 shipped. This brace allows you to use the finned cover on a 70-78Z. I have a feeling the 79-83 has enough clearance. I have old version, the new version is lighter.
