mikeyp
A loud knocking noise occurs inside my right rear strut on my 260z when ever I hit a bump. I had new struts installed and the noise started then. any solutions? Also I had new rubber installed on the rear suspension and since then the rear end squeaks going over bumps. Does any one know how to make it quit? Thank you!
nismopick
Welcome to the forum! Have you looked under the car yet? That would be the first step. Put it on jack stands & get under it for an up close inspection......
lowrider
i had a problem similar to this on my front struts. Installed some tokico hp shocks along with eibach springs. heard a light thunking when i hit small repeated bumps. finaly narrowed it down to the shock hitting the gland nut on rebound. took it apart and put the spacer that tokico provided in and no more thunking. I dont know if thats your problem but its an idea to check.
mikeyp
Thanks for the tips, guys! Can I raise the car up and then remove the three nuts on the inside of the car that holds the shock on to the body and then just lower the schock assembly down and then remove the old shock?? JIM73240Z
I think you need to remove the rear sway bar and cvs to let the rear swing arm down far enough to clear the fenders. Once that clears, you can get to the top of the shock towers. jimbo
lowrider
Like Jimbo said, you will have to remove the sway bar end link, unbolt the half shaft, and disconnect your brake lines to swing the top of the strut out of the fenderwell. After that its pretty straight forward.
Challenger
Were the "bump"stops installed? As mentioned earlier there is also a spacer that goes between the shock and the gland nut. They reccomended something like 5-6mm gap between the strut tube and top of the gland nut when torqued to 90 ft/lbs. I bet it could be slapping around in the strut tube. mikeyp
Thanks for all your good advise! I took the strut assembly apart just as Jimbo and lowrider said. I found that the inside rubber spacer was destroyed and allowed the shock end shaft to hit on the cap assembly (the one with the 3 nuts on top, inside of car. I am waiting on delievery of the rubber spacer!! Thanks again for all your input.
